From Guayaki

In South America, yerba mate has been revered for centuries as the “drink of the gods” and is drunk daily for optimum health, sustained energy and mental clarity. Of the six commonly used stimulants in the world: yerba mate, coffee, tea, kola nut, cocoa, and guarana, yerba mate triumphs as natures most balanced stimulant, delivering both energy and nutrition. The leaves of the rainforest mate tree naturally contain 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, abundant antioxidants. In fact, The Pasteur Institute and the Paris Scientific society in 1964 concluded “it is difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to mate in nutritional value” and that yerba mate contains "practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life.

My first experience with this tea wasn’t the best. But it’s grown on me over time. I now drink this every morning. I enjoy using the loose leaf tea with my cast-iron tea pot, as it really adds to the whole “tea making” experience. Contrasted against the boring tea pouches you drop in your cup.

I recommend this to all my friends already, so I’ll recommend it to you.

Drinking this in my gourd this morning while doing housework. Yerba Mate is one of my great loves. There is nothing like a warm gourd amigo to help me get through my day. It makes my body feel light and airy, and hums around my feet and hands. Strange, I know, but this is the only way I can properly describe it.

Today I filled my gourd 1/6th of the way full. A tiny splash of cold charcoal-filtered spring water to awaken the leaves Added cooler water than what is usually prescribed on other websites, and ‘resteeped’ about six times. Tannins were lower than usual, and disappeared after the third gourd-full.
To me, this is the only way to drink mate :P Nothing else compares!

I love it! I can’t make it traditionally, but definitely the closes thing to coffee! Yum!

My 1st review. I tasted it for the first time and boy was it bitter! I tried again and mixed some earl grey coffee with it, not much better. The second steeping was much better. It tastes pretty good if not for the bitterness. I will try milk for the next time. The second steeping seems to help with the bitterness.

I am just starting this and I will go so far as to say that it is an acquired taste. But not that difficult to aquire as I am starting to dig it more every time I get some more. Also I do seem to get a great boost within the hour after drinking it.

Though I do get more of an immediate boost from a cup of coffee, I enjoy drinking Guayaki Yerba Maté much more than a typical cup of coffee. Easy to brew and serve (hot or iced), with a wonderfully earthy flavor, maté has become part of my daily morning ritual. Highly recommended straight up or with a touch of mint and lemon, depending on personal preference.

Drank yerba mate this morning to wake me up after working until 3am the previous night. It wasn’t doing the job, so I moved up to something stronger.

It’s too bitter for my taste, and I can’t say as I derived any particular stimulating effects, either. If I ever had it again, I’d probably have to add honey or agave to help take the edge off.

I steeped for 4 minutes, and drank by itself; I didn’t love the flavor, so I added some soy milk, which really improved it in my opinion.

I’ve been drinking this stuff for almost a year DAILY, and to tell you the truth, I love it! I brew about 12 cups, and drink it throughout the day. It keeps my mind and body active. I notice no peak and no crash. That is what I love about it…Sustained energy :)
