After the smokiness of Jackee Muntz this morning, I felt the need for something with some sweetness, and this sounded good to me. I was a bit worried about the strength of the licorice taste, but I do like licorice. I just wasn’t sure I’d like drinking it. :P
The leaves smelled nice and licoricey and sweet, and perfect for the mood I was in.
Thankfully, the tea itself had just a hint of licorice flavor combined with an overall freshness and sweetness.
This kind of tastes like pizzelle with anise, but a bit less bakey. :P I like!
This isn’t a tea I would drink regularly, but it’s great for today! :)
I think I’m obsessed with Golden Moon’s white teas. I have now tried all of the ones that were in my big sample box—before any of the blacks or oolongs! That’ll change in the morning, though: there’s a pear and a rose that I think I’m going to love.
This smells incredible dry. I can’t stand licorice as a candy, but anise is amazing. Star anise isn’t something I see much around here, and the smell is really impressive. The taste is a little closer to licorice, but it’s not that gross candy taste. It reminds me of some unusual mints I picked up at a kitchen store a few months back, which may be the first “anise” thing I really liked. This tastes like those but tea. I don’t know that I’d buy it exactly, because I wouldn’t reach for it enough, but it’s very nice.
I got my second order from Golden Moon Tea today and haven’t tried any of the new samples yet but the teas I got before have really impressed me so far. I wish their teas were a tad cheaper but oh well… I guess they wouldn’t be as good then! It seems like they have the offers of free shipping with no minimum from time to time, so that’s most likely when I would order anything from them to minimize the cost a bit.
I’ve now tried…five of their teas, I think? And they’ve all gotten ratings above 85 from me. That’s definitely worth the money for me. I hadn’t heard about those offers, so thank you for letting me know! That would definitely cut the cost down. I think I actually had to drop a tea from my last order because of shipping costs, I’ll remember that.
A while back I read the post about this tea that Auggy wrote, and I was ecstatic. I also, do not like licorice, however, during reading the review, I thought, well maybe I will like it, I should get some and give it a shot.
Much to my dismay, I do not like it. The tea was not bad, it was exactly what it said it was, white tea with licorice. I do not like licorice, and I did not like this tea.
Thanks for the realistic note. I often see licorice or licorice root added to teas and think that maybe I’m limiting myself.
I know they’re popular and even my family loves them but licorice & caraway seeds send shivers up my spine (even writing about them makes my mouth & tongue twist) so I can cross this one off my list. Ack! Slpppt!
Yea, I’m usually the same way, the licorice has to be very faint, I think there were two I was OK with, but this one was not one of them…
Unlike a lot of people, it seems, I really adore licorice! I think I was probably expecting more of that anise flavor with this one, especially because it has such a strong, pleasant smell in the package.
I’m hitting it with all the allowed re-steepings though. On the subsequent ones, I found the liquorice smell was more noticeable, but the taste of it still isn’t so strong. What I am tasting is nicely sweet on it’s own, and mildly grassy like the other white teas I’ve tasted. Overall, it’s a very light and comforting tea, but the smell does leave me wanting something stronger.
Licorice…hmmmm not my favorite by any means, but I figured I would give it a try. When I smelled this tea it reminded me of medicine of some sort, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then I took my first sip and it was smooth and sweet and licorice! lol, but after a couple of more sips I realized what this reminded me of….a cough drop! Like a Ricola cough drop to be exact. Hmmm so if you would like to drink that this would probably be one awesome tea for you, but for me this just reminds me of Ricola cough drops and I feel like I should be really sick to be drinking this.
I finally got to try this tea. I hate licorice most the time. Especially black jelly beans. So this wasn’t a tea I was super excited to try. It has star anise in it, which I like.
It was nice for what it is. It probably would of been nicer iced. It was nice white tea. I only enjoy of star anise in other teas, where it’s blended with other flavors. Or in Thai tea.
I’m getting almost more of a chamomile taste rather than anise or licorice? More herbaceous? I dunno. This is definitely not one of my faves. Oddly enough, my husband really likes it! I don’t even like it enough to do another steep…
Great tea, mellow white with just enough licorice (actually star anise) flavor; nicely balanced, neither overpowers. Sooths the stomach and tasted as good on third resteep as the initial steeping. I got it from a Golden Moon sampler, so I only had enough for one afternoon.
Ooooh pizzelle!!!! Now I’m not so afraid of this tea :)

I got my grandmother’s pizzelle iron when she died but it was already rusted from not being used for a few years. Once I master her ravioli (ravioli – 2, JacquelineM – 0!), I will have to get a pizzelle iron so I can make her pizzelles! They were so good and I miss them.
Ooo raviolis! Yeah, they’re hard. :( My mom’s got a pasta roller attachment for her mixer that we’ve had success with, though. That and LOTS of flour so the dough doesn’t stick to everything in sight are our keys to ravioli success. (My great grandmother’s awesome, awesome recipe! So much work, but sooo worth it.) Pizzelles can be a pain too, but also worth it, and it’s been a while since I’ve had them, so I miss them too!!
