From Golden Moon Tea

Combining ultra-premium estate teas, this blend far exceeds the typical Irish Breakfast. Beautiful golden tips highlighted against deep black leaves. The robust flavor is equally elegant and complex. Rich and malty character, with subtle notes of ripe cherries, dark prunes, and hints of hazelnuts and honey. Full bodied, dark in the cup, and further enhanced with a touch of milk or cream. A connoisseur’s breakfast tea.

I have oOTeaOo to thank for sending me this tea – I received it as part of my SweeTea package. Thank you!

This is an extraordinary breakfast blend. Hefty, solid, strong black tea – perfect to get one going! I love the malty tone to this tea. Very lovely, indeed.

A very light black tea. It has a lovely light and malty scent and flavor to it. There is no bitterness to it as it goes down smoothly almost like cream. Well rounded and is a great black tea.

This is a smooth, non bitter Irish Breakfast…super yay! I compare all Irish Breakfast to Stash’s blend. I love Stash’s, to me, it’s the best, and what got me into Irish Breakfast.

This is quite nice, and good on it’s own. I usually drink Irish Breakfast iced, which might seem strange. This tea would be awesome warm. Refreshing and strong. I find it has more depth than Stash’s and is smoother.

It’s cold right now, and early enough for me to have black tea, so I figured this sample sounded tasty enough. Taken with skim milk & a packet of equal – because I know i don’t like black tea black. :P

The smell before steeping was very lovely, though my nose is a little stuffy so it’s hard to explain exactly why.

First sip, wow. After drinking bagged irish breakfast this is a huge difference. It’s not very bitter or harsh, and its just a very comfortable flavor. It’s very malty, like the packaging says…though i think the added milk helps. This is definitely something that i could easily see drinking every morning, instead of coffee especially. It has that same sort of feeling where you get full just drinking it. I do taste some of the sweet flavors the package mentions, but they’re very subtle — just enough to make this tea different, and awesome.

I’m really tempted to buy more of this, but considering I hardly ever drink black teas, especially loose black teas…probably won’t happen.

From my first glimpse of this tea, I knew it would be something special. I expect to see small bits and fines with blended teas; however, this tea had large leaf fragments (1-1.5 cm). Salt and pepper, with the promised “golden tips” and the regular black tea. Very visually appealing. Taste was excellent as well; being a mellow, malty flavor with no tannic bite. This has to be one of the best Irish Breakfast tea’s I’ve had.
Got a second steep from it…not much to write about there, as the sampler was a bit wrung out by the first steep.

Golden Moon Sampler Tea #5
This was the first black tea I saw this morning, which, of course, means 8 more weeks of winter. Wait no, it just means that I made it my “must…wake…up…” morning tea. It’s a neat looking tea, love the giant long leaves. Reminds me a bit of Golden Monkey, although the taste is in no way similar.

To tell the truth I was going to just dismiss this as decidedly meh after the first (all-important morning) steeping, but after reading all of the glowing reviews, I decided I needed to give it another go, so this is actually my second try, this time in a more relaxed, paying more attention environment. I definitely see the appeal this time around. It’s just such a strongly tea-y tea. It smells like tea, tastes like tea, but more! Like, more tea than tea. Or something. It definitely hits that tea itch that I occasionally get in the back of my throat.

On the other hand, despite it’s name, it appears to be not particularly suited for me as a breakfast tea (or at least not on weekdays, maybe on weekends), since I need something quick brewing (for the many days I sleep through the alarm or hit snooze once too often) yet forgiving (for when I get distracted and let it steep for like 10 minutes). No pressure though! I think in that sense, French Breakfast wins out.

Ordered a sample of this when I ordered my bulk order of Sinharaja. The color in my cup is darker than Sinharaja, but the overall feel and taste is sooooo similar to my beloved tea that I don’t really see the point of purchasing this one too. A good cuppa, don’t get me wrong…smooth, really drinkable, no bitterness that I can detect. A GOOD cup of tea this AM.

Very decent brew. Had the full sample pouch brewed hot with a pinch of German Rock Sugar for 5 minutes. The aroma is definitely tea, so I added milk because this is usually how I have breakfast blends. The flavor is good, a little malty with a touch of fruit flavoring.

Overall, good, I enjoyed it very much.

Here’s how Golden Moon Tea describes it: “The robust flavor is equally elegant and complex. Rich and malty character, with subtle notes of ripe cherries, dark prunes, and hints of hazelnuts and honey.”

Yeah, I probably could’ve strong-brewed a bag of Lipton and gotten the same effect. Either that or my palette’s not sophisticated enough this early in the morning to discern all these complex tasting notes.

sips again

Nope…same effect.
