Low Grown 800 feet above sea level. Known for producing the finest low country tea, Nilagama is an estate of just under 1,000 hectares. It was established in the early 19th Century and is located in the Ratnapura District, an area that is famous as the home of the Ceylon Sapphire gemstone. Tasting Notes Dark brown almost chocolatey and ripe tasting tea. Round tannins, full bodied, with a big structure and fleshy. Like Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on flat lands and lower altitudes, with lots of sun. An authentic, suave and stately tea.
Special triangular mesh bag allows large leaf teas to be used and to brew better as there is more space inside the bag. The tea can be seen clearly through the bag, enhancing its appearance.

This tea steeps up dark brown and the taste is basic ceylon to me. Its a nice tea with good flavor, not much bitterness, and just a little astringency. I just wouldn’t put it in the same category as the other two Dilmah teas I have tried. I do like it but it just doesn’t wow me at all. I would call this tea a basic breakfast ceylon to me. I’m not sure why Dilmah compares their teas to wine. To me wine and tea are as different as night and day. Of course I’m no expert and could be wrong (I usually am).

It is much like a very good British Breakfast blend, with a taste of sunshine and humidity. From the distinct aroma, to the very last sip, this tea asserts itself as a true Ceylon tea. A nice tea to pair with hearty foods, or good buttery shortbread.

This was also a very nice tea. I’m not a huge fan of most Celon teas, but I of course had to find that out by trying a whole bunch. ;-) This one is very smooth and easy to drink.
Brews up dark, smells like fresh moss and rain.. although that could be because I’m from the Pacific northwest and I always turn to a strong black breakfast tea. A little astringent as it cools but not overly so. Perfect for pairing with milk and sugar for cozying up. Also perfect piping hot straight black on the go for a morning wake up. A really strong basic tea.
one of the better bagged Black teas I’ve had.
