Marshmallow Crispy Square

I’m always surprised at how much I enjoy this one. It’s sweet and delightful each time. The green base is never very strong. The coconut comes through and while it shouldn’t be in a marshmallow crispy tea, it works here. The popped rice is the perfect counter foil to the sweet coconut.

I requested this as a sample with one of my orders. I never seem to be that impressed with these marshmallow treat genmaicha teas, so I figured I would try a smaller size. I love that Deb lets me pick my own free samples, she’s the best! I saw on Instagram today that she’s planning to ship out the subscription boxes sometime next week, squeee!

Anyway! I actually do enjoy this one. It’s not really a marshmallow square to me, more of a mildly coconutty genmaicha. I suppose the creaminess of the coconut does sort of emulate marshmallow a teeny bit, but it’s not quite there for me.

But I do like it! I’m not sure I’d feel the need to keep it around in addition to a plain genmaicha though… But would definitely recommend it to coconut lovers! I’m honestly shocked at how low the rating is. o.o

Advent Calendar Day 3

It was exciting to see a Dessert by Deb tea in today’s Advent packet from Amanda! I’ve been seeing this brand around Steepster a lot lately but haven’t placed an order for myself yet. Having tried a couple of 52Teas rice krispy treat-inspired blends in the past, I was expecting the flavors of popped rice and marshmallow. I am getting a taste of toasty rice from the genmaicha but the overall taste is a mouthful of creamy coconut. Which I don’t object to at all…I love coconut!…but it certainly doesn’t remind me of a rice krispy treat. Not sure how to rate this, honestly. It doesn’t match the name, but it’s a pretty delicious coconut genmaicha!

This was one of the first Dessert by Deb blends that I ever tried, and I ended up getting it again to re-try it, and I am wondering if I judged it too harshly the first time? This blend was also my first time trying something other than bagged tea, and it was my first introduction into the world of fancy, loose leaf tea too!

I believe I did not cook this properly the first time. The key is to make sure you steep this at a low temperature. When you do that, the tea tastes refreshing, toasty, earthy, and coconut. Grateful I got to re-try this blend!

I think it is a good genmaicha; however, for it to exude marshmallow crispy square, I think it needed actual marshmallows in here, lol!

I don’t care for this at all, unfortunately. The genmaicha and coconut combo is just not working, and definitely can’t be considered a marshmallow crispy treat. I’ll be sticking with the Necessiteas and 52Teas versions.

This tea is a coconut monster. If it was a chimera it would have a coconut head, a coconut body, and a coconut tail (three coconuts joined together, gasp!). I kid you not, coconut is listed three times in the ingredients section (coconut, toasted coconut, palm sugar).

The pairing of toasted coconut and roasted rice in a genmaicha is a nice one. I’m just a little unnerved because I thought 52Teas Marshmallow Treat was a candy tea. The palm sugar and the 500 coconuts present in this blend are zealously excited to show me all the ways in which I was mistaken.

For the most part I enjoyed this tea, but there is something present that is making my mouth dry and my throat sore; I may possibly be sensitive to something in the blend (I can’t see it being coconut, but who knows). I’ll try this again both hot and cold and see if I get the same results.
