From Della Terra Teas

“Product Description
Pu-erh is a type of tea that has been fermented after the black tea leaves are dried and rolled, giving it a very unique, sweet and woodsy taste. The Emperor’s Pu-Erh is blended with strawberry and mango flavoring and pieces. The flavor you will have in your cup after brewing is a perfectly fruity and sweet tea with an amazing Pu-Erh tone. A tea fit for an emperor indeed!

Ingredients: Pu-Erh tea, strawberry and mango flavor, strawberry and mango pieces with rose petal and pomegranate flowers*

i’m the first to comment on this one? excitement for the day…

this is a lovely puerh. i wouldn’t count it as a major player like some of verdant teas puerhs, but it has been explained to me that the highest quality teas are often NOT used in conjunction with flavour because the two would compete. (makes good sense to me).

one of the things that impressed me most about this was that it was tropical without using coconut or pineapple. while i love both, i don’t always want tea that reminds me of a pina colada. the strawberry and mango are very complimentary and very ‘warm season’: spring, summer, a cruise to someplace warm…

amber steep… as opposed to an earthy bread flavour in this instance the puerh gives more of a quiet pastry suggestion (i swear i do have thoughts that do not orient around desserts)…. as though this were a mango/strawberry danish.

haven’t tried a resteep but i will. not sure i will buy it for myself, but it was a lovely surprise in my swap package. again, thank you ShortSorceress!

The reviews on this one were split, so I wasn’t sure how it was going to go down, but I really liked it! Pu’erh is one of my favourite tea bases because of that earthy dark quality to it, and this was delicious with the fruit bits in. I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to restock it because we don’t generally like the Della Terra teas, and overall it’s a similar flavour profile to many other blends with berries and dried fruit. Long Life Oolong from Davids comes to mind. BUT as long as this bag lasts it will be well enjoyed!

Sipdown! Not too bad, but I don’t seem to be much of a fan of flavoured pu’erhs. I’d rather just have a black tea, because the earthiness of pu’erh often doesn’t mesh overly well with sweet/fruity flavourings (IMO).

(Also, I’m at well over 1100 teas right now. Not bothering with numbers until I’ve actually added teas from my more recent swaps, but I don’t believe I’m over 1200… I have my work cut out for me!)

I really hoped I would like this one, but I just…don’t. The flavors are too artificial, the pu-erh is too…earthy, and it’s just not my cup of tea. But the wife likes it, so I’ll have her work on drinking it down.
