I’ve had a sample of this floating around in my tea drawer since Christmas. Decided I better drink it soon before it goes stale. It is a bit earthy from the puerh and also pretty gingery. Not my fave for sure but it isn’t bad enough for me to dump it out or anything. Meh.

This is a interesting tea. The scent of the brewed tea had me worried. It smells very much of an orange medication.. I’m thinking liquid Motrin with a bit of dirt in the background. The taste actually isn’t that bad. There is a real citrus component with a little bit of an earthy flavor. Even though it’s strange, it is awfully smooth. The smooth character is its redeeming quality! Many thanks to ladykittykat for a sample!

AGAIN, with the over-indulging.
I made cake balls for my mother-in-law’s birthday. French vanilla cake, french vanilla icing, dipped in milk chocolate. They were delicious.
A little too delicious…
So The Skinny it is today.
The body of this tea always surprises me. I’m used to ginger teas being thin and sharp, but this has the creamiest body outside of a rooibos. I’m not used to oolong teas, so maybe that’s a feature of oolongs as well.
The last time I tried this tea I really enjoyed it, but wound up having stomach ache about an hour after. I hope that doesn’t happen again, because I plan on drinking quite a bit of this tea over the next month.
The gingeriness is pretty much all I can pick out, but it feels like it’s slicing through my mouth and stomach (in a good way) to release all of the badness I’ve been shoving into my body over the last weeks.
The smell is scary, like Detox. The taste is a LITTLE scary too, but too scary. I think it’s the addition of the “organic ginger flavouring.” Or, that’s what I’d guess.
I’m not all “Let’s drink THE SKINNY!” when it comes to this tea, but when I need a bit of a gluttonous time-out, this is a good one.

Meh… I don’t think I’ve developed an appreciation for oolong yet. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. I steeped this correctly and it was okay. Tasted okay. Just okay. So I gave it an okay rating. I will try resteeping this so I can see what all the resteeping nonsense is about with oolong… but I’m sure it will just be okay.

Have you tried any unflavoured oolongs? That might help?

Tuscanteal

No I haven’t tried unflavoured oolongs before other than this one, which is pretty flavourless… I guess I need to do that to see what the fuss is about and go from there.

Day 7 of the DT 24 days of Christmas revealed The Skinny. I’ve read reviews of it before, and spent some time reading reviews just now. I don’t tend to buy into detox/weight loss claims of anything and so I always am vaguely annoyed when I come across them. This does have ginger in it, so I do get that it could have nice stomach settling properties. But that is all I think I can concede. So anyway, off my high horse and into the tea.

I like this tea. It has a lovely warm flavor, what with the citrus and the ginger (citrus always says warm to me. Maybe because I live in Florida, so citrus is a warm weather food here.). The citrus isn’t so overwhelming, which makes me reconsider my citrus-tea antipathy after the Countess of Seville—maybe it was too much bergamot. Anyway, back to The Skinny. It has the earthy taste that screams Pu-erh, but it isn’t overwhelming. More of a back note. I’m not sure how much I taste the oolong, since I’m not overly familiar with straight up oolongs. The ginger and ginseng definitely are the dominant flavor notes for me, followed by the citrus.

Despite the health claims it makes, and despite the name (really, The Skinny?) I think this one will go in my shopping cart. It would be a good after-lunch tea what with the ginger and caffeine. I still prefer Le Digestif for dinner, mainly because it is herbal, and I have enough problems sleeping without caffeine at night.

The husband tried this and went, “Oooh!” I tried it and gave the rest back to him! I think the pu-erh teas are going to remain strictly his domain from now on!

Unlike some other Pu’erh blends (coughohchristmastreatcough), the earthy beast has yet to make an appearance for me in this tea. I’ve had it a few times as a sample, now I have a large tin that someone offloaded on me. The grapefruit and ginger combo is so strong and I love it that way. I know that’s not the point of having a pu’erh-oolong blend, but I gravitate towards strong ginger and citrus flavour so it’s not bad in my books. Multiple steepings kind of numbs my tongue from all the ginger power.

I just had an interesting time with some oolong the other day, so I’m a bit surprised this is the first tea I wanted to try out of my new DAVID’s Tea shipment (other than a sample). What can I say? I love the ingredient list (orange? ginger? YUM), and thought it was most what I felt like.

It smells divine right out of the bag, and even more so after it’s been steeped – like a freshly zested orange next to some grated ginger. First sip was weak, to say the least, and it’s taken about a cup for me to really get the flavors feeling fuller as it cools. The oolong is exceptionally faint, almost completely overshadowed by the orange flavor. The orange lingers too, and it zings a bit on my tongue even minutes after I’ve had a sip. The ginger adds heat and little else, and it builds as I drink it.

Unfortunately, my stomach is bugging me again, even though the caption on the bag specifically says it should soothe my stomach. Sigh. Me and oolongs.. I love ‘em, and yet, it’s a one-sided thang. I’ll eat something, and hopefully the queasiness disappears.

I wasn’t sure about the ginger, but this tastes very good and smooth! It is not the same ginger that you once thought would burn your oesophagus. And I wish there was a stronger Puerh base, but I’m content with the oolong-puerh balance. Still..I taste orange?!
