Kissably festive
When we think of the holidays, we imagine ourselves playing in the snow, or sitting in front of a roaring fire. But let’s face it, we all spend most of the season in our kitchens. There are cookies to bake. Feasts to prepare. And most importantly, tea to brew. Like this festive fruit-and-spice green tea blend, bursting with cranberries, apples, cinnamon and star anise. One cup fills us with so much holiday cheer, we feel like jumping up and kissing someone. But maybe that’s just because the secret ingredient is mistletoe…
Ingredients: Cranberry, apple, green tea, mistletoe leaves, star anise, cinnamon, blackberry leaves, safflower, artificial flavouring*.

This one is alright but just didn’t win for me. I think there was a little too much going on and everything was trying to be the star in this picture. The star anise, cranberry and apples all wanted to be important. Not a bad tea but I won’t be buying this one again if it shows up at Christmas.
I tried this tea in store and thought it was okay, so I decided to purchase a small bag for at home to get myself in the “Christmas spirit”. It’s a nice tea – I’m normally not a fan of fruit in tea. The star anise was a nice touch – It created this fruity, spicy, cinnamon-y concoction that was actually pretty good! AND it was festive!
BUT
I bought 25g and it barely made two cups. VERY heavy tea. Not worth a re-buy in my opinion on this alone. This should have also been blended with a rooibos or something that can handle the temperatures needed to steep fruit to get the flavours wanted. Greens go bitter when the water is too hot so in a way this tea was fickle to brew.
I received this with Sleigh Ride and Santa’s Secret as a Christmas package. Sleigh Ride was the clear winner of the bunch and Santa’s Secret was the loser; which put Merry Cranberry as the silver medal. I didn’t find this tea to be as tart as sleigh ride and didn’t detect an overt green tea taste, however it’s pleasant enough to keep around as a tangy alternative to some of my other teas.
The dry tea is comprised of incredibly large chunks of cranberry, so much like banana nut bread and forever nuts, it’s not always the most economical tea.
I tried this one today when i went into the store to pick up some new teas to replenish my stock. They were giving out free samples of this one in the store, and i should let you know that i am not a huge fan of fruity teas at all.
However i was pleasently surprised by this tea, the fruity flavour of most teas are some times overwhelming and i usually end up leaving the tea bag in too long and it always turns out bad. But i would say that this tea is really good if your not a huge fan of fruity teas but want to try one or a christmas one or even a herbal one.
Initial impressions- Smells almost candy-sweet, very fruity. Notes of licorice.
How I prepared it- 94 degree water steeped for five minutes.
First sips- Very strong fruity flavours with a very subtle licorice flavour- nice blend.
Did not hold up well to second brewing, but delicious for the holiday season. I’d recommend it, but not a whole 100g tin.
Addendum- poached salmon in Merry Cranberry- fantastic!
Ummm… where’s the flavour?
Mostly anis, minimally berry, and not even a hint of green tea. I know it could be great with a stronger tea base (I have come to suspect that an error was made during production which caused the green tea to be forgotten)and some more cinnamon, but right now it’s like hyper-diluted Elf Help with Anis added. It’s not bad, but it’s just not good.
