Kiwi's Big Adventure

So this is day 10 of the advent calendar… I’m almost caught up. This one smells fun and excting and also has an adventure of taste. The little apple pieces in this tea are just so cute in the hot water.

I love love love this tea! It’s mellow and full of kiwi flavour all at the same time. It is one of my favourite green teas right now. It smells really strong from the tin but isn’t as strong once brewed. If you love Kiwi, you’ll love this tea:

A new favourite. This is the first tea that I have come across that I really enjoy hot and cold. From the dry notes, I got a very lovely sweet fragrance. When steeped, the same thing comes out…yippie! I thought this tea would be weak in flavour, but heck no, it’s loaded with sweetness for 2 steeps! I felt like I was drinking a fruit juice! The ingredients used were pure genius, they were able to get an very noticeable kiwi flavour! I love kiwi’s.

I picked this tea up along with a few other greens I hadn’t tried yet in hopes of finding some teas I can drink without sugar. This one smells pretty good, very fruity, I don’t know about kiwi though. But the taste is something quite different. The base seems a little bitter and the flavour is more lemon than anything else, but cheap Lipton lemon, not good fresh or creamy lemon. Threw the rest of my sample away.

Tried this one over break and I wasn’t super impressed. The kiwi flavor was nice, but the blend was mostly apples and didn’t have enough tea in it, I thought. I tried making it according to the directions and it came out very light and very weak… I used more tea for the next steeping, but I still wasn’t impressed. So I guess I’ll just have to keep looking if I want a good kiwi tea.

Courtney sent me a sample of this one the other day, and I had it after my lunch this afternoon.

Hot, it was fruity and refreshing, but it’s definitely not my favorite. I much prefer Lime Gelato. However, it got better as it cooled, so I’m going to try it cold later. It’s currently in a jar in my fridge. I’m expecting to prefer this one as an iced tea, I think.

If I had smelled this tea in the store, I never would have bought it. As it is, after ordering it online it has sat in my cupboard for well over a month (an extreme rarity) due to smelling more like oregano than kiwi. Maybe I do not have such a refined nose or tea smelling palate but I know what I like. I must have felt “adventuresome” this morning and made a mug. It smelled great steeping and I knew I would like it right away (and silently kicked myself for not trying it earlier :)
There definitely isn’t a strong green taste but that isn’t a bad thing, just a taste preference. Since I steeped/drank it from my french press style mug I expected it to get bitter in the last little bit but it didn’t. A very surprising cup of tea but I enjoyed it throughly. I am not sure I will buy it regularly but maybe in the summer time I would get some to make ice teas with (even though I found it tasty hot). I may brew it longer next time for a stronger taste, there is room for experimenting. I don’t know if I tasted it without knowing the name that I would think “oh, that’s kiwi tea” but I do see how the flavours work together kind of like the sweet/tartness of a kiwi.
I’d recommend it to anyone who likes fruity teas, lighter green teas or if you were looking to try something different. And will tell my sister about it later, I am sure she would enjoy.

Who would have though such a small fruit could taste so big!

Kiwi’s big adventure is currently the reining champ in my Green tea book at the moment, I absolutely enjoy drinking this tea, it honestly reminds me of Kool Aid.

Dry this tea is loaded with all sorts of stuff it almost looks like something you would feed a rabbit, but I wouldn’t suggest wasting this awesome tea like that! It has a pleasing citrus and kiwi smell that is evident immediately when opening a tin. Brewed it is a very light tea that gives off a very sweet smelling kiwi aroma, you may actually want to pour it on yourself, again not recommended!

The final brew is a fairly light coloured tea with a slight green hue, at first I wasn’t sure I had brewed it properly until I tasted it. WOW is all I can say for a very soft and light looking tea this stuff pack enormous flavor.

I drink this one with 1-2 tsp of sugar depending on my mood and it always brightens my day up, for me it’s an instant flashback to being a kid drinking kiwi-lime Kool Aid without a care in my head. Could certainly be consumed without sweeteners and it would still be delicious. If you like citrus and sweet teas you have to try this tea at some point you will not regret it.

What a name, but does it live up to the hype?

I brewed it on the low side, just to be safe, but the problem with pairing a green tea + fruity pieces is the fruit really needs a hot + long steep to really bring out their flavours, while the delicate green tea requires a short + 80°C steep. This poses a problem, either you get flavourful fruity bitter tea or weak fruity green tea. The latter is what I ended up with… not horrible, not astounding, just kind of alright.

Which is disappointing because I was really excited there was finally a kiwi tea in the DAVIDsTEA roster.

Still catching up on my DavidsTea advent calendar from last year and sipping on this while I marathon the first season of Bomb Girls.

This is nice (but I think I underleafed) and probably tastes great iced. It was refreshing to taste kiwi in a tea. I wish it were a bit stronger though, at times it seemed overpowered by the apple.
