Mom's Apple Pie

This one is tasty, though whether or not I like it better than Hot Toboggan, but as I have npt had that in a while, I can’t really compare.

I chose this one because I wanted something lighter, but hearty and warming, so I thought it was a good choice.

I do love apple teas. This one is good, but I think I like Big Apple a bit better. Still, might be worth having some around for the fall.

Someone recommended that the reason I’ve been having trouble with this tea is that I’ve been steeping it too hot for too long. Oh, probably. So, today I tried steeping it at only 75°C for only 3-4 minutes and… it still tastes bland.

Yes, I’m getting the apple-y-ness and the pie-y-ness, but it’s not astounding my taste-buds into believing that I am drinking apple pie. Just an apple & spiced green tea. I guess this one is destined to become a “company tea” that I serve to guests who want something a little fancier than plain black tea, yet I won’t be sad to see it go.

This tea definitely deserves an upgraded rating to a perfect score. It has this wonderful green tea aroma, laced with the sweetness of apples and the spicy bittersweetness of cinnamon. The aftertaste lingers in my mouth and leaves the impression of pie crust, and before I know it I am instantly swept away to the many falls I spent in my mom’s kitchen as she peeled those haralson apples and let them sit in cinnamon and sugar until they were nice and juicy. The nostalgia this tea forces me into will hold me over until next fall when I can take in the aroma and tartness that is my mom’s special apple pie. I don’t know how they did it, but the experience I get when drinking this tea goes beyond my imagination for how DavidsTea made this flavored gem. However, sense of smell bypasses the cortex and feeds right into the emotional center of the brain, causing spontaneous recall of meaningful events. I can’t wait until next fall – I hope they start selling this one again because I am running out!

The dry scent of this is EXACTLY like apple pie. First, there is the cinnamon scent, followed by a sweet apple scent. I can even smell the buttery, crusty pastry (or is that just my imagination?)

I could just sit here and sniff this all night.

The worry is with teas that smell like heaven dry, they will lose their wonderful-ness when they are steeped. So, I am anxiously awaiting it to be ready. Will I be disappointed?

In a word, no. The scent is ever-so-slightly diminished upon steeping but not drastically so. The taste does not disappoint – fresh, sweet apples and warming cinnamon with a smooth, buttery green tea base. What could be better?

The flavour is spot on. It really has all the elements of an apple pie. As some people already mentioned, I feel like the green tea base gives a richness that sort of reminds of the crust, which I do find amazing! I also think it has a sort of “apple cider” taste, which is really nice (maybe because of the slight tartness?). Had I been a big apple pie fan, this tea would have been a must for me. However, while I do enjoy apple pie, it is definitely not part of my favourite desserts. Oh well, still a pretty impressive tea!

When I was very first into teas, it was a summer, when the fall collection rolled out, all I remember is this one being in it, and pumpkin chai. I spent so much time in love with pumpkin chai, that I neglected to drink this. Plus, I drank nowhere near the amount of tea that I drink now. I was a much slower sipper. Luckily, they brought this one out again. I tried it today, iced, because its insanely hot here. I love this tea… the apple isn’t overpowering, its a nice green, not white, so I don’t get that weird taste I usually do, and I taste a little bit of a hint of some kind of buttery flavour, which really does make me think of an apple pie… definitely going to add it to my collection!

Gah. Got up later than I intended. Decided that I wanted to try this 1st thing. In reading the reviews about this tea, I am a bit jealous of the things people got from it. I got a bare hint of buttery crust, and more cinnamon than apple, which I am not crazy about. Though I do like Apple pie, (In the Fall, preferably at Thanksgiving. Pumpkin I wouldn’t mind having year around! Both with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.) For some reason the taste of apples and cinnamon combined can be kind of weird for me. I like both individually…in fact LOVE both, lol anyways…while I’d be ok finishing this bag, even if it hadn’t been discontinued I highly doubt I would buy this tea.

This smells like sour apple sweets which after a hard day at work is just what I needed. So breaking the ingredients down basically this is a green tea with apple pieces which I have tried a few varieties of (some of which I didn’t bother trying).

First sip and you notice the apple before the green tea, it’s sweet with a little sourness and a green natural after taste. It’s pleasant overall but does not have anything particularly special about it to stand out from others that I have tried. Would I buy this again? If I lived locally then sure but I don’t think it’s worth importing it especially.
As for the pie part I think it’s just to make it sound sweeter than it actually is.

Appearance and aroma of dry leaf: I remember really liking the aroma.

Brewing guidelines: I used a metal basket strainer inside a ceramic 16 oz. cup, such that I put a lid over the top to keep the heat in. Cup was warmed before steeping. Stevia added.
I did four steepings, probably with my standard green tea parameters.

Aroma of tea liquor: Strong, and awesome! A quote I noted from my wife when she walked into the kitchen after brewing it, “I smell apples!”

Flavor of tea liquor: Very impressive flavor.

Overall: This one surprised us both. We didn’t think it would actually taste like apple pie, but it clearly did (really surprising with green tea as the base). Way to go, David!

This is gooooood!! Its ridiculously hot here, so maybe I should have had it iced, but its good hot. I can taste the apple and the cinnamon. It is very yummy. I am very impressed with the flavors. It tastes just like apple pie, minus the calories. I bought the other Fall teas as well. Tonight I will be having Pistachio Cream. It smells amazing and I love that its a herbal, so I can have it at night. A happy day!!
