Oh glorb that smells good. Hot Buttered Rum it is, with a touch of smoke. If I were drinking this blind without knowing the name or ingredients, I’d say it smells rich, sweet and somewhat dark, like butterscotch mixed with caramel right as it reaches its smoke point. Throw in some vanilla-spiced cola syrup for good measure. I got sidetracked and came back to the brewing tea 10 minutes later. Even then, the entire cup was very smooth and mineral. Taste was milder than the aroma but still pretty good. Woody, rummy and a touch earthy with spiced cola syrup. I can differentiate the ginger better in taste than in aroma. Finished cup smells like a cinnamon sticky bun, spiced rum.

My morning cup, which was brewed properly, was the same! Seems like I’m the biggest fan of this tea thus far. I very much needed a No Fuss, Comforting, Easy Tea Day — this nailed all three. Thank you, Martin :)

Aww, you liked it! I am glad. It is indeed smelling very nice; but for some reason I wasn’t that much fan of taste.

Got my first Bird & Blend subscription pack! I will say, I’m not thrilled that two of the three teas have Lapsang in them, as I find myself not being so fond of smoky teas lately. But oh well, onward we go!

This tea immediately jumped out at me as I love butterscotch and butter rum flavored things. Dry, it mostly smelled of smoke and for some reason bergamot? Which was not encouraging…

Luckily I don’t find it too offensive steeped up. There is a light smokiness but it’s not overwhelming. I taste a little sweetness, and there is a tad bit of dark caramel along with some booze.

Overall, it’s not for me. I was hoping for much more buttery goodness here… I remember having a similar issue with Butter Brew. I am pleased that the smokiness is light, however. And I still smell/taste bergamot, for some reason…

Flavors: Bergamot, Burnt Sugar, Rum, Smoke, Sweet

Yay for the first subscription parcel though — shame about the flavours, but still! I know we’re in different countries, but can I ask if the subscription has free shipping?

Cameron B. 5 years ago

It does not, but it’s very reasonable (in my opinion) at $16.80 USD including shipping for three 20g pouches. I’m not sure how the shipping cost would differ for Canada though.

Courtney 5 years ago

I just went through and added it to a cart to see and it would be about £12 ($21 CAD). Not so bad actually. The upcoming ones for November and December sound tasty, but since we ordered the advent calendars, maybe I’ll put it off until the new year. I’m looking forward to seeing your notes on them though!

I keep having to talk myself out of ordering the advent, LOL! I clearly have no self-control… ^^’

Courtney 5 years ago

I feel that way too. I tend to order teas in hoards — from all the companies, all at once, then I don’t order anything for months/the rest of the year haha!

Enjoying a small cup of this with the last piece of Harvest pie for breakfast. Goodbye favorite pie, see you next year. The cinnamon, ginger, and smoke work really well, and I’m getting a bit of a caramelized sugar flavor in the finish that is so.tasty.

I’m intrigued – what is Harvest Pie?

amandastory516 5 years ago

It’s from Coco’s- layers of pumpkin pie, pumpkin chiffon, and whipped cream. The ultimate pumpkin pie IMO.

Mastress Alita 5 years ago

Lords that sounds good.

tea-sipper 5 years ago

That does sound good. :D

Well I guess I know what I’m making after I finish the desserts already in my house!

That harvest pie sounds tasty, and so does your tea pairing!

SIPDOWN 18
Holymoly… I passed another exam. Freight forwarding is a demanding subject, with moody teacher, I went as last in the group, it was oral exam via MS Teams. And I passed with the best mark! Just… how?

Wiki says: Some celebrate January 17th as “Hot Buttered Rum Day” oops, three days too late.
So I have decided to celebrate it with boozy tea. But not getting drunk is a nice bonus, haha.

This tea is mild, woody, and smooth. Not sure about the rum flavour profile, but it’s nice. But more on the woody profile, than the rum/butter, whatever. I will repeat for third and last time myself: “But well, maybe it is actually good blend, just expectations were different.”

66? Quite low. Let me raise it a bit. 70!

Flavors: Oak, Smooth
