Found this one in the back of the tea drawer. I recall this came as part of my B&B subscription box a couple of years ago and I wasn’t too crazy about it then. I think I like it better now. Maybe because my sense of smell is at zilch so I don’t catch a lot of subtle flavors. Right now it is not at all sweet and I don’t get any pancake. But the lemon comes through with a tart little zing. Tart, not sour like hibiscus. I hate hibiscus, but I do quite enjoy this one. I still have about 10 grams left, so a few more cups to enjoy.

I’m trying to keep up with reading tasting notes but it is an advent avalanche!  Thanks very much for this one AJRimmer!  I have no idea what lemugar pancakes are but I’m tasting lemon lemon lemon.  All sorts of lemon: creamy lemon, tart lemon, lemon cleaner.  Very sweet.  It gets to be a bit much lemon really.  I don’t see how pancake flavor can squeeze through all this lemon if it tried.    The second steep was much more like lemon rind.  All of the sweetness seemed to go in the first steep.  They are using something called coconut nectar sugar which I’m not sure I have seen in a tea I’ve had before.  Not sure if I like coconut nectar sugar yet?  But the blend overall is too cloying to me.
For recent holiday teas: Simpson & Vail’s Gingerbread and TeaRevv’s Sugar Plum Spice
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons // 20 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 4 minute steep

Hahah all the lemon!

Leafhopper

Yep, keeping up with all the tasting notes is a challenge. I wonder if this is what Steepster was like in its heyday many years ago.

gmathis

(I’m not that old!) but yes, this is the kind of traffic I remember from when I was a newbie Steepie.

Dustin

Several of us are doing multiple advents which means a TON of new tasting notes. I’ve been having a hard time keeping up this month too.
I remember a lot more conversations and group explorations of various companies here in years past. More participation from companies as well.

Leafhopper

gmathis, I think Steepster’s heyday was only five or so years ago and I wish I’d discovered the site earlier.

It would be fun to do more group tastings and have conversations around different teas. That’s one reason I’m slightly envious of all of you doing advent calendars, though judging from the reviews, they’re mostly full of chais and hibiscus blends! :P

I’m pretty disappointed in this one. They only had the 150g bag, so I have a ton of it too. I don’t taste anything pancakey. It’s only weird lemon. I guess that’s from the fermented lemon. So this just turned into a not very pleasant lemon tea. It’s not refreshing since it’s too heavy. The lemon sort of just attacks your throat. Shorter steep for this one.

Leafhopper

My sympathies on the large amount of unpalatable tea. I have almost 300 g of GABA oolong that I thought was a great deal until I discovered I didn’t like it. I think it’s three or four years old now.

AJRimmer

Oh no, that’s so much! Yeah, I opened this one as soon as I received it because I was so sure it was going to be great ):

Martin Bednář

I wasn’t fan as well unfortunately. But apparently I found a way in my last session. Grandpa and 7 grams. But… maybe it needs to “breathe” a bit?

Leafhopper

Yep. Never purchase 300 grams of something you don’t know anything about! Maybe someone else on here will want to buy or swap it from you?

amandastory516

I disliked this one too. Sorry you ended up with so much!

Maddy Barone

I was disappointed by this one too. Shame, since it sounded so good.

AJRimmer

I know! I’m always all over teas that include “pancake” in the name. Hopefully there’s someone out there who I can pass this along to!

February 2020 subscription

Prepared 2tsp in 400 ml mug and… +- 5 minutes I think.
To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with description. A sugar/pancake tea? Me, who do not drink sweet too much?

Let’s see. The aroma is certainly lemony and thankfully not artificial. The woody flavour of rooibos is all overpowered with sugar. There are some lemon zest notes, some dough as well.

It is nice! But personally I am not fan of the flavour. Maybe it is just too sweet for me?

I like this idea of this, but not gonna like “Lemugar” sounds disgusting. Hits me the same way the word “Loogie” does… Cringe

Roswell Strange

**not gonna lie the word “Lemugar”…

Martin Bednář

Yes, the word “Lemugar” reminds me something else :D and it is kind of weird word.
