Turkish tea holds a special place in our hearts, reminding us of chaotic days exploring markets & lazy afternoons supping tea on the road sides of Ankara. Our tribute to Turkish apple tea uses an unusual but wonderfully addictive combination of green tea, apple pieces, cinnamon, cloves & pomegranate flowers.

This is an apple flavored chai, and it’s a really fun tea. Lots of flavors going on, but what I love the most is that there’s sage in this tea, and it works really well. I think I’ve only has sage in one or two teas, and both times it just seemed wrong. In this tea, however, it works. The spice blend does overpower the apple flavor at points, but then the apple makes a reappearance in the next sip. A fun little tea. Something I think I’d enjoy as a seasonal tea come late October and into November.
I placed a wonderfully sizeable Bluebird order at the weekend, so I’m happily finishing off the rest of the teas from my previous orders at the moment. This one I almost expected to dislike, but it’s actually rather yummy. When it’s right, it has a wonderful baked apple flavour with a hint of cinnamon and clove spicing. The dry leaf is really pretty, too, with it’s little specks of red among the leaves.
I have got this wrong, on occasion, and it can be woefully bitter. Today, though, it’s smooth and astringency free. The green tea base really helps the apple flavour to pop, and works with the rest of the flavours genuinely cohesively to form a really satisfying cup. This may be a repurchase come autumn.
