Keemun is perhaps the most famous of Chinese tea varieties, prized for its toasty, dark chocolate flavor and slightly smoky aroma. Our finest, hand-made version of this tea brews to a fiery, reddish color with incense smokiness, and aroma of brown sugar and earthy fruitiness. The mouthfeel is textured and layered with incredible depth, possessing the sweetness of dates, brightness of black pepper, the warmth of fresh biscuits and notes of smooth earthy cocoa. The Anhui Keemun is not to be missed!

I’ve had this tea for a while. I purchases it very early on in my teas adventures when I was still trying out new varieties.
I can only appreciate it now. The dried leaves smell like earth..and I can smell grassy hay. a richness..some kind of herbal nuttiness and yes, chocolate.
It brews a dark and smooth. I kinda reminds me of an English Breakfast, but less complicated. This is a black for people who like coffee without any milk or sugar. I think it would be a great transition.

Swapped a teaspoon of each tea from Adagio’s Masters Sampler #1 for a friend’s Sampler #2. This is my first of those that I’ve tried.
The leaves themselves are dark and short, almost like chocolate sprinkles or a black rooibos. Scent of the leaves is very leathery and smoky.
Liquor tastes less leathery but more smoky compared to the scent of the leaves. Notes of pepper, dark chocolate, and malt coming through mid-cup. The liquor achieves all these tastes while still keeping it light — an impressive feat, considering all of the rich flavors in here. Delicious. Probably couldn’t be an every-day black for me like Irish Breakfast, but it might be one of the best blacks I’ve had.
The leaves are so cute, thin, small, and black with random brown spots all about. It brewed up well. Tastes smooth with a touch of smokiness. I felt the flavors were perfectly balanced and not at all bitter. I will continue to drink this one time and time again.

An enjoyable tea. Rich, dark chocolate. I have others with similar flavor profiles that I like better so I don’t plan to repurchase, but I’ve enjoyed the sample.
Second Steep
8 ounces water + 195 degrees + 20 minutes
Not a bad resteep but it’s a bit weak. Not sure if it’s worth it in the end.

Gongfu!
A few weeks ago I bought some new storage bins that fit under my bed, so I was able to clear off enough of the crap on my floor/desk to be able to fit a small gaiwan & cup on the desk at the same time as my laptop. The result!? Being able to gongfu during meetings now! Though, if we’re being totally honest, I was already doing that for the meetings that don’t require me to be on camera – I would set my laptop on the floor next to me and brew in my little floor space. Now, however, I have an option for the ones where I do have to be at my desk on camera!
This was my “trial” tea as I tested out this new steeping set up, and it worked really well! I keep a carafe of hot water on the floor next to me and then just pour off to the side in between steeps. This tea was really lovely as well; it’s a really nicely woody and umami forward keemun with some of those jammy undertones and sweet smoke notes. I didn’t find the steeps had much in the way of flavour evolution but all of them were certainly really good!
Tea Advent calendar – Day 21
Another straight black tea with a lovely dry leaf…lots of golden tips in this one! The flavor is…“manly” is the word that’s coming to mind. Intense, slightly smoky and even a bit spicy with notes of cocoa and malt. It’s good, but not as smooth as the black teas I tend to prefer. I may try my next steep with milk!
Flavors: Cocoa, Malt, Pepper, Smoke
Perhaps it’s because I already have them on my mind, but the flavors of this Keemun remind me of s’mores. The tea has a silky-smooth texture similar to melted chocolate, you can almost taste it on your tongue if you close your eyes and concentrate. There are subtle notes of graham flour and brown sugar—then comes the smoke. It’s mellow compared to a pine-smoked tea such as Lapsang Souchong, which is why I prefer Keemun when I want to enjoy the flavors of autumn in my cup.
