Tea of the Week for November 18, 2019!

This tea was originally called “cinnamon pumpkin latte” but somewhere along the line, I omitted the cinnamon part. Cinnamon is really the only spice used in this (well, other than chicory), which is why I didn’t call it a PSL.

But that’s enough about all that. This is primarily a rooibos blend, but there is a little bit of honeybush in it to add a touch more honey-ish tones to the blend. I find that when you combine the two South African herbs, you get more honey and less woody flavors, which is why I combine them pretty often. To the organic herbs, I added pumpkin, cinnamon, marshmallow root & chicory. I also added a touch of vanilla essence.

I love the result. This has a nice pumpkin & cinnamon flavor coming through. Don’t get me wrong, I love the spice medley of pumpkin spice, but I like that this has a focus on cinnamon & pumpkin. The chicory adds a hint of coffee-ish flavor without the caffeine. The marshmallow root & vanilla essence gives this a light “latte” kind of taste without adding milk. It’s smooth, it’s warm, it’s seasonal & it’s really tasty! It’s also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, caffeine free & allergen free!

I made this as a warm, straight cup the other night, and was just not into it… the rooibos came off very strongly, and veered slightly in that medicinal direction I don’t care for. I wasn’t really getting the pumpkin and spices, though there was something a little savory about it. So I decided to take the “latte” in the tea name literally, and prepared it that way yesterday. Wowzah! A complete 180! This tea is fantastic with a bit of warm sweet vanilla almond milk added. I could clearly taste the warm and sweet cinnamon, which was so smooth and lovely, the rooibos/honeybush base had mellowed into sweet honeyed and nutty notes, and the chicory seemed to elevate a nuttiness in the brew. The creaminess added a lot, too. This is definitely how I’ll be finishing off this tea.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge Tuesday, October 26th: National Pumpkin Day Tea #3

Thanks very much AJRimmer!  I think I was saving this particular sample for pumpkin day.  It sure is earthy tasting, but I’m not really sure “earthy” as in pumpkin flavored. I bet that’s the chicory root.   The rooibos is so deep it almost looks like a black tea – I have never seen that before.  The second steep is much the same – very earthy, not necessarily pumpkin… slightly spicy. I wasn’t even tasting or aware that my beloved marshmallow root was in this blend until Steepster was working again and I could see the ingredients list. So I’m assuming the chicory root kind of took over here, but I have had worse chicory root blends.

I was really looking forward to trying this tea I got from amandastory516, but unfortunately there’s a weird flavor in here that I can’t get over. The spices are too mild. I don’t really notice a clear pumpkin flavor. The main thing I taste is the weird flavor I can’t place.

I’m sorry this one didn’t work out for you! I strongly disliked it as well. All I could taste was the chicory, which I generally don’t enjoy.

That’s okay! I noticed another review mentioning the chicory too. I’ve had so many teas with that as an ingredient, but I actually don’t know what it tastes like! But that’s probably what I’m tasting also.

To me, chicory has a slight coffee-like taste.

I… dislike this less than usual today, but really not a fan at all. I do not like chicory in tea, and marshmallow root and I have had a mixed relationship. I don’t know which of those ingredients I’m finding unpleasant, but it kind of kills the tea for me. It does taste a bit like a PSL, I guess.
