Bonus Tea for February 2023!
It might seem a bit autumnal – but a caramel apple is yummy any time of the year! This blend starts with organic Chinese Gunpowder green tea, to which I added lots of freeze-dried granny smith apples & caramel essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!)
The result is a yummy cuppa that is green tea forward, with notes of tart apple & smooth, sweet caramel. So good!
organic ingredients: green tea, apples, calendula petals & natural flavors
more about this tea: I had planned on doing a featured reblend this month – unfortunately, when I went to the tea studio to get working on the blends for the month, I realized that I didn’t have the ingredients I needed to reblend the tea I had planned – so I had to think fast! I decided to go with something that I knew I had ingredients for & this is that blend.
And even though it isn’t the tea that I had originally planned, it sure is good! The gunpowder green tea is a fairly strong green tea, as green teas go – but I like the way it mingles with the tart apple & sweet caramel. Really nice!
to brew: shake the pouch! The apples are a lot more buoyant than the tiny pellets of green tea, so you’ll want to make sure you get some tea & apple in every measurement. Use 2 ½ grams to 12 oz of hot water (175°F), steep for 2 minutes & strain. Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. I find that the flavors of caramel apple intensify as it cools!
serving suggestion: I enjoy this served hot, but I really prefer it if you do like I often do – and brew it – and forget about it for a while and come back to a warm – but not very hot cuppa. Or even a cooled off cuppa – because the flavors really shine through once the tea has cooled. A little bit of sweetener will enhance the overall sweeter notes of the caramel just a smidge.
