From The Republic of Tea

Sweet African rooibos is the ideal base for smooth caramel and crisp apple flavors. This pleasing caffeine-free blend is wonderful as a dessert tea. Enjoy this caramel apple tea with a splash of warm milk.

Ingredients: Rooibos, apple bits, natural apple and caramel flavors and vanilla extract

I got this in the mail (attached to a RoT catalouge) mid last week. And I can say this isn’t something I would have tried otherwise.

The apple element is a lot like a green apple Jolly Rancher and the caramel doesn’t really become prominent until it cools, and then it becomes a burnt sugar, caramel note. All in all, it reminds me a lot of those caramel apple suckers.

Unfortunately the rooibos is also a prominent note, which isn’t exactly my favorite flavor.

I bought a tin of this tea the other day as it was 50% off. I get sucked into sales so easily! This is a tasty rooibos blend — at least I remember it being one when I had it this past fall. The scent of the dry leaf is very much like an apple Jolly Rancher candy with a bit of rooibos in the background. As strange as that combination sounds, it actually works.

After water has been added, the rooibos and caramel dominate the scent and the apple fades a bit. Sipping… everything is present here: the apple (slightly artificial), the rooibos and something creamy (I’m assuming this is the caramel). The apple is most like a Granny Smith to me as it’s more tart than sweet. The rooibos is definitely prominent, so if you aren’t a fan of rooibos, I would suggest you stay away from this blend. The caramel isn’t explicitly caramel, but is a generalized creamy note that pairs itself with the rooibos base. I’m increasing the rating for this one because it’s tasty and unique!

Traveling Tea Box C #21
Oh man where has this been all my life! This tastes EXACTLY like those caramel apple lollipops that I love so much. The ones you have to eat all the caramel off of before you get to the yummy sour apple middle! This like that! Liquid candy in a cup! Outstanding! I need some of this (actually a lot of this) in my life!! Now I need to find it! I’m hoping world market has it here! Wish me luck!

oh man, I remember those things! They remind me of high school. They were invented just the year before I started 9th grade and I don’t remember a single day all 4 years when someone in the school didn’t have one. (for my own vanity, I am one year younger than anyone may calculate from the information given, LOL)

BrewTEAlly Sweet

You should have one soon along with this tea! Ooooohhhh maybe stir your tea with the lolipop instead of sweetening it! Oh mam I’m going to need to try that now ha ha!

Shelley_Lorraine

maybe I shall have a lollipop, but not this tea! I put it in the box b/c I didn’t want it. :p I’m never able to enjoy caramel in a tea :( but I like the lollipops. So glad this stray teabag found an appreciative palate though :)

Fiddling

I remember those lollipops being a hot commodity back in middle/high school! Sounds like an interesting tea. :)

Got a sample of this in the mail today, and rather than add it to my cupboard, I’ve decided it will be my noncaf tea of the evening.
It actually smells good, like gooey caramels. And the smell of the steeped up tea is just the same.
It sips a little flatter than that, unfortunatly, but it smells lovely. All in all, a perfectly nice red tea.

Not bad! I wanted to try something new, and don’t regret the choice. I tasted more caramel than apple, and no strong rooibos notes either. A bit of raw sugar made it even more dessert-like, but wasn’t necessary. I drank the whole (small) pot over the course of a long meal, and only used half a packet of sugar in the raw.

This was a sample that came with the Republic of Tea catalog.

This one is driving me crazy because the smell of it when it is first brewed is a smell that I recognize, but I can’t quite place. It’s a smell you’d find in a candy shop, I believe, and might be a flavor of salt water taffy, but I’m not at all confident in that. The caramel apple flavor is only really apparent to me in the aftertaste (something like one of those caramel apple lollipops). The apple lacks any tartness, and I like tart apples. There is also a dry woody flavor in the aftertaste, but it’s not strong. Overall, this is a pleasant tea, but flavored teas, and especially rooibos aren’t really my thing so I won’t rate this. Fun to sample, though!

This came as a sample with the catalogue. It smells just exactly like caramel. The flavor definitely disappoints by comparison! It isn’t a total fail, just not as rich as the smell. This does taste like a caramel apple, with the caramel flavor at the beginning of the sip followed by a sweet apple taste. The apple flavor is somewhere between that of a naturally very sweet apple and candy. There’s a mildly spicy kick in the aftertaste that I’m quite enjoying. Overall, not a bad cuppa, but nothing I’d seek out.

I love this tea, currently down to the last few bags. Adding milk greatly enhances this tea.

Definite apple sweetness up front. It took me a few sips to find the secondary note of the caramel, but when I did it was warm and mild. The rooibus taste is there but as more of a playful backup that grounds the apple.

This tea was alright. It is very sweet but the flavor of it almost seems flat. I think it might be the caramel note that has left me feeling neutral about this.

Jillian

Sounds like they might have used just artificial flavouring when they blended the tea.
