I feel kind of bad saying this but I am disapppointed with this one. I had it several times and I find it bitter even though I followed Den’s teas brewing instructions. The second infusion has a lot of flavour left and more sweetness to it, but still has a bitter aftertaste. Weirdly, I find that this tea isn’t as sweet as I am used to with other senchas. It is one of their most expensive senchas and they say on their website that it’s supposed to have a natural sweetness, but sadly I can’t taste it. I prefer their Sencha Fuka-midori over this.
Preparation
I’m not sure that I get why people recommend drinking pu’erh if you’re used to drinking coffee. The brew sure has a very nice dark colour, but I wish it was more full-bodied. I like this but I really have a hard time describing pu’erhs so I can’t say a lot about it. It smelt a bit fishy at first, but I rinsed it for 45 seconds before brewing it and it got rid of the fishiness. Then I steeped it for 2 minutes in a mug with an infuser.
I got a solid 3 infusions out of this and I’m sure I could get more. It was very good iced with a little bit of lemon and sugar.
Maybe it’s in my head but I’m starting to believe the chinese myths about medicinal properties of puerh. It really quenched my thirst and I felt refreshed after drinking several cups. I wasn’t as hungry as usual in the afternoon.
Preparation
I received my Black Friday order from this company today and I am impressed by how fast it got here and how nice it was packaged. I opened all the tea pouches because I was too curious to see and smell them and they all seem very high quality.
This is very good! Maybe it helps that I am eating caramel chocolate bark with it :) I find that this tea has no bitterness or astringency at all. I can’t really taste the smoky flavour though, maybe I didn’t steep it long enough (I didn’t follow Yezi Teas’ instruction to brew it gong fu style). I am not a scotch drinker so I can’t really comment on the similarities in flavour.
Preparation
This is less mineral and more vegetal than other oolongs I have tasted. I find that it doesn’t taste a lot like milk, but the mouthfeel and aftertaste are kind of creamy. I haven’t had any other milk oolongs so I can’t compare. It is very good but I don’t think I will find myself craving it just because right now I am not liking oolongs as much as I did. I don’t know what happened, when I started drinking them I was amazed that tea could taste like this, but now they are all kind of meh for me. I need something that will knock my socks off!
Preparation
The bergamot flavour in this tea is subtle and I am happy about that because the last earl grey I bought was wayyyy too strong on citrus and I wasn’t able to enjoy it. I’ve been luckier so far with bagged earl greys than with loose leaf. I wish I could find a good loose leaf earl grey because I always find that the bagged ones lack in flavour complexity. Anyway, this one is a safe bet! If you’re not sure about earl greys I would suggest trying this one first because it’s nice and light and the bergamot flavour isn’t too perfume-y. But don’t expect to be blown away by this.
Preparation
Finally a tea from Twinings that tastes like tea! This one brews very dark and strong with a mild astringency. It’s fine and I will enjoy drinking the bags that I have, but I feel like it doesn’t have the complexity of flavours that I am used to with loose leaf blacks.
Preparation
Not bad, the bergamot flavour is light and the other citrus aromas are nice, but I can’t taste the black tea as much as I would like to. This is something I find disappointing in several Twinings blends. Overall, this is truly refreshing and it goes down very well. This review is about the bagged form of this tea. After reading other tasting notes it seems like the loose leaf version is better. Oh, and Uniquity is so right about it tasting like Froot Loops!
