Another breakfast smoothie matcha! Since I have a full package of this in the cupboard, I just used up the whole advent sampler in a single smoothie, and made it “double size”. Probably close to a tablespoon of powder whisked in 16oz of plain oat milk.
I was surprised just how sweet this was now that I’ve finished off my (sweeter) coconut milk and opened up a carton of plain oat milk. I thought maybe I’d actually taste matcha for a change, but… nope! At least mixing these straight in milk (my typical smoothie preparation, before adding the other ingredients) really doesn’t let the matcha flavor through… I guess that is either a good or a bad thing, depending on your preferences. One of these days I’ll have to try at least half water to see what difference that makes…
I didn’t like this one as much as the strawberry, and now I’m kinda regretting this is the package I bought previously before trying the samplers. I expect raspberry to be a more tart/tangy berry, which is what I like (hello, bow down to your Hibiscus Queen!) but it is just so sweet it doesn’t really read as raspberry to me. Strawberry is a sweeter berry so I guess the sweetness and lack of tang element felt a little closer to home for me there. So mostly I get a really sweet red berry flavor, like a fruity candy, and I get that it should be raspberry, but it just feels too artificial to me without at least a little tanginess. If I were getting the matcha grassiness underneath to sort of even out the sweetness/lack of that element, maybe I’d like it a bit more. I guess I’ll have to experiment when I finally break open the larger pouch…
Used this to do a chocolate raspberry smoothie (other ingredients being chopped dates, chia seeds, almond butter, chocolate sauce, a few frozen raspberries, and ice). The smoothie is fine, though the chocolate does dominate a bit. I do get a bit of a raspberry flavor close to the end of the sip. It’s still tasty, but I’m not one to turn down chocolate for breakfast.
Flavors: Artificial, Berry, Candy, Sweet
I was sucked in from one of DTs sales in end of 2020 (maybe black friday? can’t remember) and bought like 10 oz of this for pretty cheap. It will interesting to see if I like this one or not, but thanks for sharing your tasting note!
