180 Tasting Notes
Perhaps a pot of this will help clear up my sinuses this morning… :-)
I’m a big fan of spicy food. Vindaloo & Kadai are my go to orders at when getting Indian for dinner, and I love to douse my tofu scramble with Sriracha. So, I figured I’d give this a try. Color of liquid during pour is YELLOW. Like, neon yellow. When the mug is full, it appears more golden (little darker than a plain green typically appears), but the stream when I poured from pot to cup was wild.
It smells a bit stronger than it tastes, but there’s still a nice little burn at the back of the throat after a couple of sips. I’m definitely tasting more of a mild, cinnamon heat than anything from the chili peppers. And the peppercorns work really well here; I can taste them, but they aren’t overpowering.
Preparation
My Fall tea order came in today! This one is just like I remember from last year. The dry leaf smells amazing; its tart apple, a touch of sweetness, and some cinnamon. The smell continues during steeping, mimicking hot apple cider. This is one of those teas that drives your coworkers crazy with the aroma while it steeps :-)
Taste is much more subtle than the scent, in my opinion, and you can tell it’s a green tea – albeit it a very light one, without vegetal notes. Which suits me juuuuust fine.
Preparation
A perfect fall morning tea. The strong, warming flavor of hazelnut is nice wake-up for a windy day like today.
Had a sample packet of this from my last order, so I thought I’d give a taste today. It’s good, but nothing special enough that I’d buy a full 50g of it. I’m pleased to discover that it’s not too floral – it just tastes like a nice cup of white tea.
Preparation
So buttery, so delicious, and so comforting.
But did they discontinue it? I’m drinking my last bit of it now, and couldn’t find on the DT website to reorder! I do not approve, DavidsTea, I do not approve.
Preparation
hmm i’m not sure, my friend and i were at a local davids which is an extended flavour store (whatever that means) .. i was trying to remember the name of this one because i was talking about how i don’t like mulberry leaves too much.. and i didn’t see it there either..
yeah, even though i’m not a fan of mulberry leaves, i must say, the mulberry magic did taste better to me too!
I haven’t tried the Pistachio & Cream yet, but as a rule I always prefer macadamia nuts to pretty much all other nuts. Time to look for a new mulberry tea, I suppose.
Strange! I couldn’t find it before, but it’s back?

Cavocorax, that’s the best news I’ve heard all day! I just wish I realized it BEFORE I placed my order yesterday…
Cold-brewed for about 10 hours. Unfortunately, due to the chunks of fruit, the 25g packet in the summer collection was barely enough for one pitcher’s worth.
Interestingly, the bits of dried fruit pretty much disintegrated fully during the cold steep, leaving lots of little “particles” in the finished product.
Tastes pretty good though. Very sweet, almost like a thin, tropical fruit juice. Good for an outdoor summer get-together, but not something that I’m likely to re-purchase.
Thanks, adagio breeze for swapping!
I used this to make a Lapsang baked tofu. (Recipe from here: http://www.guavarose.com/2012/03/lapsang-souchong-tofu-4/)
It turned out great! This was the perfect Lapsang to use – strongly smokey with a good amount of depth. Tasted awesome with the saltiness of the shoyu mixed in. It’s making me very tempted to add some salt next time I drink a cup!
OMG! What a great idea this is , never would have thought of that, thank you! I usually add a few drops of liquid smoke to tofu when I BBQ it, but lapsang will add a new dimension to it, love the recipe :-)
