Having this for breakfast along with what I’ve dubbed Vanilla Chai Cream of Wheat: said hot cereal with vanilla extract, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and coconut milk. Ohhh, so good. Talk about a great way to get some iron in your diet when you’re iron deficient.

I wasn’t expecting too much from this tea, to be honest, but I thought I’d pick up a sample anyway since it’s an incredibly good deal. The dry leaf doesn’t smell like maple but rather more like burnt sugar. The taste is also pretty much along the lines of caramel too. No creaminess, but it’s nice with half and half. Inoffensive black base that isn’t too astringent. No repurchase but it’s nice to try some maple teas.

Oooh that breakfast sounds amazing!

And it’s SO EASY!

Cream of wheat is SO GOOD. Why does it have to have gluten? :)

Fjellrev

Wow, you like it that much, eh? I’d honestly sooner take steel-cut oats. :)

OMGsrsly

I think I like it lots because it was a “treat” breakfast instead of oats when I was a kid.

Too bad they don’t make something similar that is GF, at least I’m assuming that. When did you realize you couldn’t do gluten if you used to eat it, then?

OMGsrsly

I’ve always had tummy troubles, and was dairy free for about 5 years or so and still having problems. So I did a 3 month elimination diet, and felt so much better. I tried denying it, but after a couple more years of eating mostly gluten free at home but still buying bagels or whatever when out, I cut it out completely. I still have to be careful I don’t eat too much dairy, but I feel so much better now. The only sucky part is I can’t get an official Celiac diagnosis without eating gluten daily for 2 weeks and getting a blood test, then doing another gluten challenge and getting a biopsy. Which. No.

OMGsrsly

I can get babies rice cereal, but it’s not quite the same. :)

Fjellrev

Wow, I had no idea that that is what one would have to go through in order to get tested for Celiac disease. I don’t blame you for not wanting to bother. But I’m glad you were able to figure out which foods don’t agree with your body. I still need to do the elimination diet but keep slacking since it seems like such a huge commitment.
