3rd infusion…semi-fruity and semi-floral and sweet. A bit sugar-like. Nifty!

2nd Infusion – still good! Florally-sweet and even juicy. After taste is that of chestnuts, perhaps?

1st Infusion was yummy! Sweet but still floral. Weird thing tho…the bloom…bloomed…but upsidedown! I tried to flip it gently several times and it just wouldn’t belly-up! Regardless is was a delight to my palate! 2nd Infusion coming soon!

Oh, funny! I think I would like a defiant little upside-down bloom, if I had an appropriate vessel for steeping flowering teas.

Thank you AmazonV for letting me try this one! So I had this one last night before bed and it brewed a bit darker than most jasmine pearls I had, but I also noticed the pearls were darker as well. The taste was “ok”, it had a more vegetal taste and was lighter on the jasmine than most and to me was a bit astringency. I have no idea what a tin of these cost, but if they are cheap then I would say they’re not bad, but if they’re the normal cost of what these usually run then I would say look elsewhere!

Second Steep

Smells and tastes a tiny bit stronger, probably because I accidentally steeped it for too long.

Not sure what combination I could use this in, though it is just fine by itself.

First Steep

Has a somewhat strong jasmine “leafy” smell. Very unoffensive taste. Little to no aftertaste.

A fairly bland and generic jasmine tea, gets the job done without being too fancy or obtrusive (which is certainly not a bad thing); soothing and relaxing. Maybe try with honey for a bit more flavor?

First Steep

A sweet, full (malty?) smell. Has an almost “candied” taste, though more of a caramel flavor than just sweet; similar to sweet potatoes? A bit of a malty aftertaste.

Malty flavor is quick to overwhelm when drinking too fast. Needs something to go with it; would be good with cookies or muffins, or mixed down with a more bitter black tea.

Steep Information:
Amount: 7.6g, one entire sample bag
Water: 1000ml filtered boiling water 212°F
Tool: Breville One-Touch Tea Maker BTM800XL
Steep Time: 3 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: strong strawberry, natural but not quite
Steeped Tea Smell: strawberry, tea
Flavor: a fake strawberry and tea
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: sweetness
Liquor: translucent dark brown

I placed a large order of mostly samples so I could experiment with more flavors from thepuriTea, it’s sort of like pokemon, I want to try them all (mostly).

Post-Steep Additives: German rock sugar, surprisingly made no difference

It’s a good black tea, but it’s a fake strawberry flavor so not a favorite.

So sorry to hear about the lid. Maybe it’s fixable? I’m going to also have to find a milk oolong to try; I keep reading such great reviews!

Kryptryx 15 years ago

It was glass. First my glass strainer, now the glass lid. The cosmos is telling me I need to upgrade my stuff.

Jaime 15 years ago

I wouldn’t argue with the cosmos, then.

I feel bad “liking” this. Hope you find a suitable replacement soon.

Tasted the tea at different steep times. Approx, 30s, 1m, 2m, 3m, and 4m. I would stop the timer, remove the infuser, taste, and then reinsert the infuser and resume the timer, until the next sample time.
At 30s the taste and aroma were very good, but at 1 minute, they were great, with a strong milky flavor. Subsequent times, the milkyness decreased, but there was no increase in any other flavors, nor bitterness.
The color become darker as the time increased.

I’m surprised I am the first to log this one, too!

Dry leaves somewhat smell like Cocoa. Yum.
Post infusion liquid smell is slightly smokey or maybe roasted would be a better fit. Almost like roasted pumpkin seeds, perhaps.

It tastes roasted and a bit like nuts or seeds. I will agree that the end of the sip and after taste are sweet…this amazes me! It’s like a HAPPY ENDING tea. YAY!

I gave it a few extra points for complexity…

This one has me intrigued. Looks like I have another to add to my shopping list. Although, I did buy some new tea from Tea Gschwendner, it is Cream and Nut Brittle. Just sounded interesting.

Rachel – THAT sounds interesting, too!

Not the sweet potato that i remember. a bit astringent but not too bitter. I’ve have migrated a bit lately to drinking black teas iced. I think this one may follow that trend as well.

Amber color after steep.
Smells a bit of malt. Another reviewer mentioned sweet potato or yam. I couldn’t figure out the smell until then but that is it.
It is very smooth. Not bitter and no astringency.

after some cooling the sweetness really starts to come out.

Just recently ordered some more Milk Oolong. The freshest batch since they restocked. I found this to be just as delicious as the last batch. The only difference I noticed is as follows…

1. More delicate
2. More subtle creamyness
3. A lot more balanced in flavor

I made this first on December 31st 2011 and used it to make the first cup of tea using the new addition to the family… My Breville One-Touch Tea Maker and it did not disappoint. I made it again today 1/5/2012 to honor my daughters 5th Birthday and served it to my family. Everyone raved about it. Even my stereotypical “big black guy” brother in-law enjoyed it. He is normally a Gatorade kinda guy. (My statement isn’t meant to offend anyone. My bother in-law would laugh at my statement and if he isn’t offended no one else should be either. I am only mentioning this because I know it may come off wrong to those who don’t know me and my humor. Thanks!)

I really so enjoy this. I made it in my Yixing pot this time, it was fun. The leaves opened up so beautifully. Wonderful on a dark and stormy night while watching Lord of the Rings which I just noticed is available to stream on Netflix.

Oh, I so desperately want some. I contacted thepuriTea, but they won’t have more in stock for a couple of months. I might dedicate my little Yixing pig teapot to it. :)

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas 14 years ago

Wow, I can’t believe it is out for a couple of months. It is really is awesome.

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas 14 years ago

Maybe you’ll get lucky and they will get it back in stock sooner.

If there were ever pure heaven in a cup this would be it. It was made even better after I gave the leaves a quick rinse.

Just pure happy!
