Sipdown (116)!
Man, I’m sleepy already – and I swear all I’ve done today is sleep! So, we’ll see how many notes I can post before The Voice is over, and then it’ll be time to cozy up in bed.
This one is from the Amoda February box. I don’t know how I felt about it seeing it included; it’s not an overly unique blend is it? There are a lot of lavender EG blends out there. One thing that is really cool about this one though is that part of the sales for this one go to The Chilliwack Hospice Society. I wonder, if I were to buy this one straight from the Amoda site would some of the proceeds still go to that charity?
I cold brewed my sample; there’s supposedly hibiscus in this (WHY!? GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO EG!?) and I thought that’d make it the least noticeable. However I didn’t see a single piece of it in the leaf when I was measuring everything out. Was I just that lucky?
This has a really floral start; the lavender is almost soapy but doesn’t quite cross that line. It gets awfully close though; like middle schoolers’ pelvises at their parent chaperoned dances. LEAVE ROOM FOR JESUS! And the wave of lavender transitions into a really brisk black base and very heavy handed bergamot notes. Nothing too strong, though. It finishes on a really soft, velvety vanilla note that’s to die for. Best part for sure; and it’s what drove me to finish this as quickly as I did.
Overall, it’s relatively average but that finishing note makes it a little better than the usual lavender Earl Grey. Mmm!
Finishing off this Tea Sparrow sample. :) This looks like a really bizarre combination of teas, and I guess it is, but it works! It’s a nice blend of flavours: rich green tea, toasty (from the genmaicha), and fruity. I would order more of this if Aromatica’s shipping weren’t so prohibitive.
Flavors: Fruity, Toasted Rice, Vegetal

From the Amoda Tea box February 2015!
I love(d) lavender Earl Greys. I went through a discovery point in my life where I hated everything about lavender buds in my cup. While I am still probably in that phase, something about the combination of bergamot and lavender still gets to me.
The cream in this tea smells almost coconutty. Like cream of coconut. Steeped in my travel mug, it is slightly reminiscent of vanilla yogurt. I can’t say if it is a good thing or not. The first two mugs I drank straight, and the third cup I thought I would try adding some cream to it. It brought out the cream and the early grey-ness. The lavender, thank goodness, was pushed to the back burner.
I am at this point in the winter where I am bored by the winter-y flavors and heavy scents. I am waiting impatiently for the newest crop of spring harvests to arrive and am itching for some fresh AF tea :P
Got this in my February Tea Sparrow box. Very excited about the pineapple and coconut although it doesn’t come through much. Definitely a nutty flavour and quite nice with no milk/sugar
Flavors: Almond, Walnut

Of the four teas that were in the December Amoda Box, I think that this one was my favorite. Or at least, it was the most memorable for me as I sit here and type this out. I really like the combination of ginger and cream. The sweet, creamy notes soften the spicy ginger to create a sweet-yet-spicy combination that I really LOVE. The Assam is rich and flavorful – the perfect base for this. The malt plays well with the cream notes to create an almost caramel-y experience. The ginger adds a lovely spice note.
So good.

Time for some lazy notes! I have a lot of untried flavored tea samples from various sources, and since I haven’t been enjoying flavored teas much lately, I thought it best to get them all over with in one sitting. So this one is first up, and it came from the December Amoda box. Dry, it actually smells almost boozy? Must be the vanilla flavoring. I can also smell a bit of ginger.
The steeped tea smells much more gingery, but I can also smell the vanilla still. The taste is actually less gingery than I expected, which is a pleasant surprise. And it does taste creamy and vanilla-y. Still, never going to be a favorite since I don’t like ginger.
Flavors: Cream, Ginger, Vanilla

Merry Christmas to those celebrating and Happy Holidays to all :)
When they say Ginger Cream, they really mean it. The dry leaf even smells creamy. It’s amazing! And as this morning’s eggnog latte, it’s like gingerbread in a cup, except super creamy gingerbread. Seriously, this one is good! A great way to start the day.
I can hold the rest of the sample for you and pass it along when you return to Canada :). Anytime I can share something with you, I am more than happy to do so!
Mmmm, this is really good, I think it’s one of my favourite flavoured rooibos blends. Nutty, creamy, cinnamon-y, with just a bit of apple. I made it a bit stronger this time, and it’s even better this way – extra sweet and creamy. Kind of reminds me of an oatmeal cookie, which is a bit random, but in conclusion: YUM.
Preparation
Got this in the October Tea Sparrow box, and it’s yummy. It reminds me of Tiesta’s Nutty Almond Cream (which I think is very similar to Davids Tea’s Forever Nuts) because of the cinnamony, nutty, apple-pie-in-a-cup quality. It has a rooibos base so it doesn’t seem quite as bizarre to be adding milk and sweetener to it.
Flavors: Apple, Cinnamon, Nuts
Preparation
Nut crunch was awesome. This was so smooth and so delicious it is definitely one of my favorites lately. It is a wonderful fall tea that caters well to cold weather and the holidays. It has a flavorful rooibos base that is well accompanied by the sweet fruit and nut combination. It’s a great dessert tea but also is great for relaxing at the end of a long day.
I received this through the October Tea Sparrow box.

This was in my November Amoda Tea box. The aroma is very bright and orange-y, smelling like I had just cut into a fresh orange. Juicy! The tea brews up a dark, transparent, chocolate brown color that smells amazing.
Very flavorful balance between orange and formosa tea. Sweet and juicy and beautiful! Good for many infusions too … the orange notes didn’t disappear after the first cup!
‘Leave room for Jesus!’ OMG. I was pretty mad at the fact that they put hibiscus in this. Why would you do that???
Did you actually see any in your sample though? ‘Cause I’m convinced mine didn’t have any.
Huh. I did! They were few and far between, but quite noticeable. When I saw those it was like I had met the Mayor of frown-town.
