This smells quite nice – like an early grey but with a creamy, dessert-like scent to it. Taste-wise there’s a bit of the sweet, vanilla-cream at the start of each sip…but it quickly gets jumped on and smothered by the Earl Grey Bravo which then proceeds to do a victory dance on my tongue. Maybe if I steep it a bit less like I do a cup of straight Earl Grey Bravo it won’t be as pungent.

I’m not really sure how good this particular darjeeling is as compares to other darjeelings, but it was basically exactly what I wanted right now, and it’s really hitting the spot.

So much of the nose of this tea reminds me of the Royal Garland I have from Samovar, despite the fact that I’ve been brewing the latter at 175. I probably would’ve made more mention of that in my Royal Garland note had I more experience with plain darjeeling tea, but there you go…always learning. They both seem to have the same ‘high’ notes, and the differences are largely in the foundation on which those notes rest; in Garland they’re obviously the buttery floral roundness of oolong; here in this cup, they’re less complex, black tea touched by a very subtle reminder of raisins, as with many black teas.

I fully expect that the sweet muscat-y fruity tang that’s foremost when very hot will mellow down to something less tangy and more bready as the cup cools, in just the same way as it did with the garland, but I actually picked this out of the cabinet feeling like I wanted some of that tangy grapeskin taste, so it may not survive quite long enough for the tea’s edges to round themselves off.

There’s a thickness to the tea mid-tongue that reminds that this is assuredly a black tea, and which melts at the end of the sip to whole-mouth shining sweetness.

…man. Nothing like a nosebleed to ruin a good zen moment with a cup of well-chosen tea. Argh. Springtime? You can stop by anytime now, for serious.

I’m not sure what it is, but I really didn’t like this tea. I thought I would love it. I’m a huge earl grey fan, and I absolutely love london fogs. Since london fogs are made up of earl grey, vanilla, and milk, I thought the combination of flavours in this tea would be perfect for me. I think it’s something about the adagio vanilla black tea that I don’t like. In the tin, the blend smells sickeningly sweet to me. It has almost a caramel or candy scent, rather than a fragrant floral vanilla. I always add milk and sugar to my earl grey, but in this it isn’t pleasant in the slightest.

I did like the flavour of the adagio earl grey though, so I might add a sample tin of that to my next order. The addition of the vanilla just wasn’t for me. I’ll be passing this one along to someone who’ll hopefully enjoy it more than I do.

Another tea that smells delicious but fails to be equally subtle upon brewing. I’m not opposed to it (though I bought it as a free sample), but the mango, vanilla, and chocolate did not balance to my taste, and the overall effect is less sweet than I had anticipated- I have yet to really taste the chocolate at all, even as a hint.

I’m going to keep trying it until it’s gone though, in hopes of hitting a good balance. If you add sugar, be sparing- my typical two packets of Sugar in the Raw to a cup will be too much for most people.

I’m not usually a peach tea fan unless it is iced but this tea surprised me. The flavors of the oolong go well with the white peony while the peach stays on the down low, offering its own subtle hints. This tea was included with my last purchase from Adagio since they were running a special. It probably isn’t something I’ll buy again, but it was fun to try something I may not have otherwise. 1.5 tsps in 12oz cup @ 180º for 6 minutes.

Another cup of tea for tonight, perhaps the last for the night. I think i finally have the recipe down for this tea. 2 teaspoons of the tea itself in simmering water, just hot to the touch. In these conditions this tea excels. The sweetness of the chocolate comes out and the smoothness is exceptional. No Tannin when brewed at this temperature, which is essential for me to enjoy a cup of tea. You cannot really detect the mango that is allegedly in the tea, but the vanilla and the chocolate blend nicely.

This is a great tea…when brewed properly. Brew it too long and its far to bitter. If you don’t brew it long enough its chocolaty taste does not come out well. Its a gret cup of tea for a cold day outside. It also a great tea when the lights are low and the mood is right.

Infatuated with this black tea. Extended steeping with milk and some cane sugar is win beyond win.

This oolong is mellow with a little floral touch. The peach flavor is subtle. Overall a really tasty tea.

This smells better than it tastes. When I take a whiff, it smells like delicious caramel chocolate goodness. In my mouth, it’s not that great. It’s sweet, which I love, but it has some sort of chemical aftertaste I can’t seem to get past. Next time I’ll try it with milk and sugar.

Another tea from Lena F. So this is the tea that has all the weight loss hype… Kinda ironic since that’s the very reason I got into loose leaf and am just now trying it over 2 years later.

I love the look and feel of the raw leaf. Most twisted tea is very thin- this reminded me more of a small gnarled twig. There’s almost no scent, but what scent is there is a light and slightly sweet one.

2.25g/6oz. Gosh after all my excitement over Japanese greens, it seems odd to use my tea scale. I missed it!

I wasn’t sure how long to steep it so I decided to go on the light side. The liquor is a light copper, the aroma sweet but with depth and complexity. The taste is smooth and much like the aroma- sweet but not fruity, sugary, or desserty and a touch, but only a touch, earthy. It’s deep and complex w/ being strong or bitter. I don’t care that it doesn’t live up to the hype of being a miracle tea. I’ll still be drinking a lot of this!

2nd infusion, 4 min. Quite similar to the 1st. Liquor is a bit lighter maybe and more orangy- a burnt orange color. The taste is also maybe a but lighter, smoother.

LENA

you are most welcome. I had no idea about this being a “miracle tea” or weight loss tea. I just liked the taste.

Cofftea

3rd infusion, 5 min. Orange liquor, reminds me of pumpkin pie. Slightly sweet, smooth, and grounded.

Cofftea

As much as I LOVE my bowla matcha, I like to cleanse my palate after drinking a bowl- not necessarily of the taste, but more of the texture and mouth feel. 4th infusion, 6min. Liquor is a bit lighter and more yellowish. Taste is very similar to infusion 3- smooth and clean.

Cofftea

The snow has stopped, but w/ 15 to -30 wind chills I’m so cold even in the house that I don’t want to move even to make tea or lunch. It’s 2pm and I just got done eating. Lasagna tv dinner sauce was on the sweet side, only 2 layers (I prefer 3), and the sausage had a LOT of fennel in it. I like mine made w/ beef for that reason. Now, on to what I had w/ that lasagna. Infusion 5, 7 min. Holy cow! Is this the same tea? Am I suddenly on top of the Grand Canyon? Because this had a huge drop off in both liquor and flavor. The light yellowish green liquor makes it look like a white or green tea and the taste definitely matches that of a light, slightly sweet green or white. That’s NOT bad, but I’m disappointed it dropped off so drastically. I’ve been surprised before, I’m praying it makes a come back next time.

Cofftea

Madison doesn’t want to go outside even though she needs to cuz it’s so cold and windy, but I don’t blame her. This means letting a lot of cold air in the house. Making infusion 6 to warm up. The liquor is back! OK, well I forced it. I would have normally steeped this infusion for 8 min, but bumped it up to 10. The liquor is now a dull mustard brown and the flavor is exactly like infusion 5 only stronger.

Cofftea

Infusion 7, 12 min. The liquor is a lovely golden color and the taste is light and clean.

Cofftea

Infusion 7, 16 min. Liquor is lighter than infusion 7, and flavor sweeter than it’s been in a while.

Cofftea

Infusion 8, 20 min. lighter, but still sweet and good.

Cofftea

oops, last infusion was 9. this is 10. 27 min. VERY light liquor- champagneish. Taste is also very light, but sweet and clean.

Cofftea

Infusion 11, 36min. Liquor same as #10, flavor a bit stronger. These leaves are dead. Funny.. the leaves infusions 2-11 looked like raffia. I would have thought they’d be totally flat by now.

As my first Darjeeling, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. The color of the tea threw me off, since it wasn’t as dark as blacks usually are. The taste is nice, definitely different than a “normal” black.

I’m having this with milk for my morning cuppa. It makes a descent breakfast tea but I still wish that it were a bit more robust – although it might be the cream flavour mellowing it out a bit.

I don’t really like this tea enough to use up the full canister I bought so I’ll be ‘donating’ some of it to the various people who requested some in the Take It Away thread.

So I was looking for a black tea have following my cup of 52Teas’ Coconut Cream Pie tea and my gaze happened to fall on this tea. The two are quite similar, at least the descriptions would suggest they are, so I thought it might be neat to compare them both. This is just a quick and dirty evaluation, I don’t think I have the patience to do one of the long, detailed reviews Takgoti does. ;)

What I notice about the dry tea is, while 52Teas’ tea has lots of big coconut shavings, this tea only a has a few measly little shreds scattered through it. It doesn’t smell quite as strongly of coconut either.

The trend continues with the flavours; not as much coconut, but a bit more creaminess and also a touch sweeter, I think. One point in Capricorn’s favor is that it seems to take to milk better than the Coconut Cream Pie tea. The ‘bases’ of the tea taste different too, which I suppose only makes sense as Capricorn has an Irish Breakfast (Assam) base and 52Teas uses a Nilgiri base for their teas.

Which of these two teas do I like better? They’re both very much drinkable and pleasent, but I’m leaving toward prefering Coconut Cream Pie over this one because of its stronger, richer coconut flavour.

Ricky

I’m so tempted to purchase Coconut Cream right now. If they only had Chocomate in stock I’d make my purchase immediately.

Cofftea

They still have mandarin matcha though Ricky=D

Jillian

Ricky, I stole the last bag they had in stock. ;P

Ricky

I see the matcha! That’s tempting as well.

Jillian, evil evil evil! Haha, it’s okay. That means I get to save my money =P

Cofftea

Get it Ricky. It’s so good cold!

You know, as much as I love the vanilla and coconut flavour, there does seem to be something missing with this tea. I think I was expecting a bit more strength and depth, particularly with the Irish Breakfast added in. It’s kind of a one-note tea, so I think I’ll drop the rating a little bit.
