On first steep, I didn’t love this tea. The roasted flavor was definitely present, but not overpowering, which I liked. But it also had a kind of tartness, or sharpness? I don’t know how to describe it exactly, but there’s a particular flavor I’m not too fond of that I sometimes come across in green teas, and it was present in this one.

But I was up really late last night, and ended up doing many steeps. Starting on the second steep, the sharp flavor mellowed, and the tea took on a fresh sweetness that I enjoyed. Each subsuquent steep, the sweetness seemed to intensify. So, I ended up liking the tea. I don’t think I love it enough to buy more when the sample runs out, but maybe it will grow on me.

Another good steep of this tea. I’m trying to drink through some of my many samples! The flavor is very light this time, so I think I might try it a tad longer next time. It reminds me a lot of other “golden” teas I’ve had, and the sweet taste has a lot in common with the Golden Buds tea from What-Cha, though this tea isn’t as rich.

drank Autumn oolong by Rosali Tea

I’m completely obsessed with this tea. I got it in a long-ago subscription box and have been hoarding it. The leaves are long and dark and twisted very slightly at the edges. There are a few smaller dry, very light brown flat leaves mixed in. The smell of peaches is strong, and it tastes sweetly and naturally of peaches. It’s an amazing richly flavored oolong. I desperately want more, but Rosali Tea doesn’t sell it anymore and there’s no information on what region it’s from. I tried emailing them to no avail, so I guess I’ll just savor what I have.

Not sure if you have any dancong experience (you said you are new to puerh, right?) but sounds
to me like some kind of Fenghuang Dan Cong. Not sure about the flat lighter brown leaf but long twisty peach flavour, single origin is bang on the money.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I’ll look into that! I haven’t had any dancong experience! I’m still kind of exploring tea.

Well, dan cong means single origin/tree, fenghuang the area – ‘phoenix mountain’. And it can be very pricey. But the taste is out of this world.

My favourite vendors for this type are jingteashop & wuyi origin. Yunnan sourcing also stocks them but the first two have the edge.

I’m making a reckless decision and having tea late at night. I steeped it Western style with just a pinch of leaves for about two minutes.

Green tea is usually not my favorite, but this one is really good when I’m in the mood for it. I definitely get the nutty flavor that other people mentioned.
It’s not too in-your-face with smell or flavor, but is a little creamy and it tastes more “vegetable” than grassy to me, which I like. Perfect late tea on a rainy evening.

I totally forgot that I had this sample. I’m a pu-erh beginner, but I liked drinking it. I found it to be a really satisfying, thick tea for a chilly morning. I wandered off and oversteeped it for ages, but it didn’t get bitter or harsh. It did’t have the same kind of sharpness that I found in the Peet’s Pu-erh. It had the fermented smell that I notice in other Puerhs, but a very mild taste. It’s hard to describe since I’m new to Puerhs, but I found it comforting. It wasn’t as flavorful as I would have liked, but was enjoyable to drink. It gave me two strong Western style steeps, and the third one was a little watery, but that’s likely because I let it steep for a really long time on the second one.

I don’t think I’ve tried a Nepal black tea yet. This is a very nice beginning. It has the mellow, chocolatey flavor I like so much in black teas. It’s also a sweet and toasty kind of tea. I notice a subtle spice flavor that reminds me of the Yunnan black I got from Upton. It goes beautifully with my breakfast rolls and is a cheery start to the morning

I could have sworn I’d already written a note for this one, but I can’t seem to find it. I absolutely love this tea. I’m drinking it while I work on a writing project, and it’s very comforting. It’s sweet, not astringent, but not weak either. It’s kind of starchy and chocolately and would go nicely with a pastry. In fact, I’m baking right now so I can have a little treat to go with this fantastic tea. It reminds me favorably of Golden Monkey, which is another absolute favorite Chinese black. I always dither over my morning tea decision, but I’ll probably have this one again tomorrow since I love it so much.

I got a bunch of samples from Upton when they had some free shipping deal, and this is one of them. It is a solid breakfast tea, though it turned a bit astringent. It was good with milk, and would be an okay basic black tea to have around, but I don’t think I’ll get more of it. It has inspired me to check out other assams when I get the chance though.
