62 Tasting Notes

There is an immediate burst of rich nuttiness as the thick, brothy liquor coats the mouth, followed by a sweet vegetal flavor that takes over and gradually reveals an unexpected floral note. This is the first Dragon Well that has truly impressed me. It is bold, smooth, and an absolute delight.

Soft tannins and citric fruitiness with a somewhat candied note that transitions to lemon blossom in the aftertaste. This tea has a dryness to it, but also packs quite a punch of flavor.

This tea has a thick texture and robust, aromatic malt with a slight note of mint in the finish. It is quite strong and straightforward, and while lacking the fruity and floral aspects sometimes found in a Dian Hong, still yields a pleasant cup.

An initial earthiness and mild bitterness lead into a roasted note and hint of plum, although without much sweetness. This is an unusual tea that is quite different from other oolongs.

Rich malt with a brisk edge and a fruity note that expands on the palate, developing a very light sweetness in the finish. This tea is quite enjoyable and most resembles a Yunnan Dian Hong.

Soft and plush with a floral burst and growing sweetness. Notes of butter and magnolia blossom linger well into the finish, which is smooth and very slightly drying. A splendid oolong.

Dark malt and moderate bitterness up front, with notes of raisins, black grapes, and dried apricots arriving in the aftertaste. This is a fairly enjoyable tea, though it requires care to avoid oversteeping.

Smooth and rich malt with a fairly thick texture and sustained notes of baked bread and toast. This isn’t a complex tea, but I still found it quite enjoyable.

Dark malt and rye bread are the dominant flavors here, with a moderately bitter bite and a slightly smoky finish. This tea is distinctively Keemun, but quite strong and unrefined.

Loose leaf tea drinker since 2006. I began with Adagio and Upton and moved on from there.

My reviews are concise and only describe flavor and texture. I avoid the 0-100 rating scale, for two reasons. First, there is no objective measure and a score of 100 for a newbie could be 70 for an experienced connoisseur. Second, users may ignore the review itself and focus solely on the score, which could lead to an unfair assessment of the tea and possibly impact the merchant’s reputation and sales.
