150 Tasting Notes
Kanpe is tea made for a great cause and that is reason enough to buy it. Seriously!
The first ingredient is hibiscus and that did give me pause. I’m not a hibiscus hater, but I don’t love the bitterness that sometimes comes with it. Thankfully, this tea is not bitter. Somehow the mango, papaya, coconut, and cinnamon work perfectly with the hibiscus. I’m not saying that this tea will convert hibiscus haters, but if you’re not adverse to it, this tea may be a good for you to try.
I hear it’s fantastic, but I’m highly allergic to it. Which sucks because so many amazing sounding teas I want to try have the stuff in it!
Buttercream smells divine! I could live in my Buttercream tin and die a happy woman.
This tea is creamy, sweet, and quite delicious BUT I wish the chamomile were a little less strong. I’m not a huge chamomile fan, and when this tea is freshly brewed the chamomile overpowers the other flavors for me. Once the tea cools it has a far more Buttercream(y) flavor. It’s still an overall good tea.
Heather Martin Okay, you can totally live in my tin of Buttercream with me as long as you promise not to sniff up all the buttercream(y) goodness. Deal?
If you’re any enemy of fun, please stop reading now. Seriously, shoo! Go and have some dental work done, get a jump on your taxes, or simply just be gone with you. HoopLa from Indie Tea is all about fun, and I won’t have anyone who can’t appreciate the ingenious mix of herbal tea, fruit, and vegan gummy bears ruining the party! AND I don’t want to hear any nonsense about about gummy bears having no place in a serous tea. HoopLa is seriously delicious and I applaud Indie tea for making my cup of herbal tea even more enjoyable.
HoopLa is chock-a-block with dried fruit, vegan gummy bears, and herbs. The infusion is a bright yellow with a distinctive, fresh, lemon aroma. At first sip, a wonderful, uplifting, citrusy brightness washes over me. The body is light and refreshing with a sweet, lingering finish. I can’t wait to take another sip!
Indie Tea is donating 5% of their tea sales in October to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and we all know that breast cancer research is a great cause. And if you add a tin of Cranberry Boobilicious to your order they’ll make an additional donation to the cause. It’s a win-win-win-win-win situation!

Gummy bears in tea? That does sound like a cup full of fun. And a donation to breast cancer research? I will have to put this on my list to try out.
This is amazing! I am trying my hand at blending and wishing I could put things like this in my tea… why didn’t I just do it? But first – an Indie tea order. shwing!
Gummy bears? Like… really? Real ones? GOSH! O.O I nominate this as most bizarre tea ever. How weirdly intriguing!
Angrboda Yep! Really real gummy bears… so much fun!
Vicki Gullem You can order Indie Tea on line right here http://www.indietea.com/ my dear :)
Vicki Gullem HoopLa is the first Indie Tea I’ve tried thus far. I have three others to try, but I’ve fallen behind on my tea sampling. Poor me, right? I think that LiberTeas may have a few recommendations though :)
BALLS!!!! I’m not going to give S’mores Chai a numerical rating because I knew that my liking it was a long shot. 52teas chai teas are just not for me unfortunately. Too peppery? I don’t know exactly what the problem is, but I keep buying Frank’s new chai flavors because I always hold out hope (and I’m a shameless addict).
Mad props to Frank for making S’mores Chai vegan! It was worth buying it for that reason alone :) I’d love to gift my 52teas chai(s) to a good home, so please let me know if you’re interested. Don’t be shy… yes, I’m talking to YOU!
SOLD to the lovely lady with the sniffles! I will send you S’mores Chai and Caramel Vanilla Chai first thing next week :) Both bags are almost completely full.
Oh…and, Thank you! I was not into chai that much at our first swap. But now…. plus, I am a Girl Scout leader. I probably NEED the S’mores one!
If you are in need of The Queen, I can send reinforcements!
I need a good kick in the pants because my productivity has come to a screeching halt. I would typically rely on my good friend Queen Catherine to pull me by the ear and make me snap to, but alas I’m out of THE QUEEN. How did this happen?!
I’m hoping that another queen might be able to help me out of my evening malise. Queen Victoria may not be quite as feisty as Queen Catherine, but she’s no slouch! Queen Victoria is an icreadible blend of green and black teas with the sweetness of jasmine and the smoky goodness of Lapsang Souchong.
Two cups later… I’ve not gotten the swift kick in the pants that I needed, but I do feel like I’ve gotten a stern talking to. We will be recomending this tea (the royal we).
I don’t tend to be too fond of flowery teas, but this organic Bai Mu Dan is only very slightly floral. In fact, the liquor is so smooth and delicate that I find myself working overtime trying to identify the flavor elements. BUT then I remember to relax and surrender to the tea. Yeeessss… there’s a sweet, fruity essence that lingers on my pallet. What a lovely, delicate, floral, fruity, and smooth cuppa.
Chocolate rocket. CHOCOLATE rocket! CHOCOLATE ROCKET!!
Imagine me running around the house with my arms extended like airplane wings chanting CHOCOLATE ROCKET! The dogs look puzzled and a little put off that I have awakened them from their afternoon slumber with tea madness, but they don’t really get me anyway.
This is exactly how I felt after the first time I had Chocolate Rocket. Love this tea for a pick me up.
I was a little wary when I first opened my bag of Date Nut Muffin Rooibos because the aroma wasn’t enticing me at all. As weird as it sounds, I always fear my rooibos having that weird aftertaste that can only really be described as “rooibosy” and I thought I smelled some indication of that in this blend.
BUT I was wrong, wrong, wrong, so blissfully wrong! There is no weird “rooibosy” aftertaste in Date Nut Muffin Rooibos. This blend features a genuinely tasty combination of cinnamon, dates, and walnuts that makes for a convincing muffin(esque) flavor. I’m likin’ it!
P.S. How are my fellow Steepsters doing? I’m going to get my act together and start logging on regularly again because I miss my fellow tea-fiends!
Yes! I know what you mean about the rooibus. I generally avoid rooibus because of it. I’m hoping to get back into rooibus with some flavored blends. Glad to hear this is a good one. :)
SimplyJenW I don’t excel at sickness either! I’m more a caregiver than a care acceptor. I hope you’re feeling much better today :)
I really enjoyed it. But it is light. Maybe you got a bad distrubtion (OMG I can’t spell today) of the ingredients in your cup. Try it again.
I shall give it another go. I did have quite a few banana chips and coconut in my last infusion. Should I try it iced?
I haven’t tried it iced so not sure. It would likely be pretty good iced. Maybe leave the tea in while you drink it. I think that is what I did with mine hot.
most epic last line of a review ever.
