216 Tasting Notes
Alas, there’s the last of it. I definitely need more of this — and, really, I need more fruity herbal teas overall. I always drink them up so quickly that I’m left in front of my tea shelves staring at the black and green teas and wondering why nothing sounds just right.
Normally I find Earl Grey to be too intense a flavor in my tea, especially first thing in the morning, but this is a very nice, mellow Earl Grey that adds to the tea instead of overwhelming it. I made a big mug of it this morning and scraped in the last of my big jar of local honey, which amounted to nearly half a spoonful. Mmm, that makes Monday morning a little better.
Preparation
I’m not a big fan of the vaguely bread-like flavor of chamomile, so I put in a smidge of rooibos tropica to liven it up. And it did! The tea came out pale-pale-pale, but it had all the fullness of chamomile and a nice little zing on top from the sweet rooibos tropica. I will have to remember this for the next time I crave some chamomile. I might try adding a little sugar so that not all of the sweetness is coming from the rooibos, although that could also end up being too much.
(My girlfriend pronounced, with a tone of great surprise, that this was “Huh! Actually comforting.”)
Preparation
When I first got this tea, it was best described as “GINGER in tea format”. It knocked you down and sat on you with ginger. Now, a couple of years later, it is merely a ginger tea. While this is less dramatic, it’s much more drinkable. I left the teabag in the mug to see if it would get more flavor as it kept steeping (it did), but I wound up drinking it too quickly to judge much of the difference. I’m a huge ginger fan, and this tea as it stands now is a wonderful way to drink it. I’ll have to see if I can turn up a fresh box and do a comparison ….
I made this tea because my girlfriend wasn’t feeling well and it’s a very warming tea when you’re achy. It’s got a bit of a rasp, but not the way tea normally does; it’s the part of the ginger taste which just keeps lingering. This tea is quite sweet, which may be why it makes a big deal out of being sugarless – I guess they thought people would doubt!
