This is my go-to easy Genmaicha tea. I have bought loose varieties before and haven’t been able to come close to what they taste like when you have them at your favourite sushi joint. This tea tastes the closest. It might not be the most sophisticated, but it is definitely affordable. I’m disappointed at the reviews for it on here, but I understand. The only other tea I’ve tried that even comes close to the “sushi” taste it he DT one.
At first sniff: I don’t really smell a whole lot… maybe toasted rice.
At first steep: Toasted rice and green (if you can imagine what green smells like.) It tastes toasty and crisp. It’s probably my favourite thing to drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I don’t always make breakfast first thing, but want something. Sometimes I reach for a breakfast black, but when I have this stocked, I reach for this 9 times out of 10. I guess familiarity rings true when rating teas and this is why I rate it so high :)
