Awhile back I ordered some teas from Adagio, including several sample size teas, this being one of them. I’ve been drinking a lot of Puerh lately, which doesn’t make me any kind of expert, mind you.
The dry leaf doesn’t really have much of a scent, compared to some of the Pu’s I’ve been drinking, but my nose detected that faint saltiness, more as a sensation. There’s enough in the package to steep this a couple of different ways, so that’s what I’ll do. The first steeping was as directed on the package: 1 tsp in an 8 oz cup for 3 minutes.
It’s really not bad! It’s not as heavily nuanced as some of the Puerhs I’ve tried, but it isn’t overtly fishy or barnyard-like either. I re-steeped, & it was just ok. This would be good for someone wanting to try puerh out without having too intense of an experience the first time around. It’s dark, mellow, and a little tingly.

Sidebar: I was sipping on the re-steep of this tea, when I apparently started having an allergic reaction, either to this or the Wanja, which I also just finished drinking. I started sneezing like crazy, & have a strange numbness in my sinuses, palate, lips, and face. Of course, I could be coming down with a virus, I suppose, but it was a very sudden onset, so I’m thinking allergies. Hopefully it will pass quickly, as I have a gig to play in a couple of hours! Just one of the difficulties of being me…sigh…
naw, I don’t take those kinds of things.
I think this happened once before, when I drank some puerh or other. It wasn’t anything dangerous, just wierd. I know some puerhs make your mouth a little numb, but that was a little too much. I’ll wait a few weeks, then try this one again and see if the same thing happens.
I’ve had anaphylactic shock where I had to be hospitalized, so I tend to err on the allergy pills side of things! Glad to hear it was nothing serious.

Ack! If you have an allergy pill I’d take one just in case.

Eek. Hope the symptoms have disappeared.
I felt kind of weird for awhile, but it passed.
