From Zhena's Gypsy Tea

This delightfully floral and refreshing rare white tea is shaken with high notes of mint and perfectly petaled with haunting pink and red roses that will transport your spirit to the scents and splendor of the world’s grandest rose gardens. An exquisite cup which is both extremely low in caffeine and high in antioxidants. Also makes an exhilarating iced tea.

Ingredients: Organic, fair trade Indian Bai Mu Dan white tea, organic Egyptian mint and Bulgarian roses.

Sipdown, 246. This sample comes to me thanks to Kasumi no Chajin! I am reviewing the bagged version of this tea, which is no longer available; it is only sold loose now.

Funny how the name of a tea company can influence your perception. For some reason I thought the name of this tea company was Zhena’s Gypsy Chai, no doubt from the preponderance of chais in their catalog. So I immediately assumed that this was a chai until I looked it up and saw that no, it was actually a white tea with mint and rose. I am not usually one for minty teas, but I am game to try most things.

Well this is certainly minty, and I imagine that if you were in to that type of thing that this would be really up your alley. I was disappointed that I couldn’t really taste the rose at all in my cup. It was pleasant enough, but definitely not something I would go back to.

Thanks to Kasumi no Chajin for sending me this one. Mmm smells minty. Tastes minty. But not overwhelmingly mint. Yum yum.

Thanks again Kasumi no Chajin!

Soft Minty flavor; the roses are very subtle, but distinct. My favorite hot tea by far.

Such a sweet, simple little tea. Only three ingredients, but they blend so wonderfully. The Bai Mudan white tea isn’t the star player of the trio, but it provides a warm and buttery background. The mint leaves are the main flavor, supported by a rosy aftertaste. So bright and clear, not even the slightest bit musty. I do feel a sense of peace drinking this tea. Highly recommended to mint and rose lovers.

Its flavor mostly reminds me of, uh, toothpaste. I guess from the mint. I can’t taste much else.

The loose leaf tea has mostly smaller, ripped up leaves of mint white tea leaves, with a scattering of rose petals throughout as a tertiary accent.

The first infusion, steeped for about two minutes, is a gentle, smooth peppermint-white tea blend with overtones of rose. I’d score this tea even higher if the rose notes were more pronounced. On subsequent infusions, or at higher temperatures and longer steep times, the peppermint really comes to dominate the mix. This tea is perfect for those times when I want a more romantic, easy-drinking take on mint.

A contemplative, soothing tea good on mornings home and winding down in the evening. Pairs really well with desserts -a warm roll or slice of bread topped with coconut oil and raw honey goes great with this tea. :)
