Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong (aka Duck Shit Aroma) is a rare Dan Cong varietal grown in and around Ping Keng Tou village in the Phoenix Mountains outside of Chaozhou in Guangdong Province. The tea bushes from which our King of Duck Shit Aroma are more than 80 years old growing naturally!

Absurdity day Sipdown. It’s an oolong with a strange name.
This was in a tea mail from Shae, thanks! Brewed this western style, the whole sample in half a pot. The first steep is roasty hay up front with a lingering fruity melon sweetness underneath. Its quite nice, and I had forgotten how lovely a Dan Cong can be. Second steep is a bit weaker, but becomes more floral as it sits and cools. I’m not sure I need this in my cupboard, but I’d be tempted to add it to an order.

Fruitier this time around with an extremely pleasant bitterness and very slight astringency. I’m getting blood orange notes and maybe pomegranate, though I don’t see these flavors mentioned in other reviews. There’s a complexity to this that I’m enjoying. It even reminded me of mimosas at one point!
