From Yogi Tea

Our Lemon Ginger tea is based on a traditional formula that supports digestion, eases minor stomach upset and provides a refreshing herbal pick-me-up. We use organic ginger, used for centuries by Ayurvedic practitioners to support digestion and warm the metabolism. The sourness of lemon promotes the secretion of digestive juices* and provides the perfect counterpoint to the piquant-sweet taste of ginger. Licorice and peppermint leaf add sophisticated nuance to the formula. Enjoy a cup of Lemon Ginger when your tummy needs a little taming, when you need to reinvigorate your body, or when you simply want a delicious, healthy drink.

This was gross, and another Yogi Tea product I ended up just throwing out. The combination of the dry ginger taste and the licorice makes a peppery, herbal flavour that doesn’t resemble what the tea should. It’s not lemon and ginger, it just tastes musty and poor quality like other Yogi Products. Definitely not recommended. For something better than this (but admittedly still not perfect [sorry!]), give the Twinings lemon and ginger tea a try. It definitely blows this crap out of the water.

I steeped this tea for 7-8 minutes and I think it is a perfect steeping duration. It is a perfect mix of lemon and ginger in nose and flavor. It is a very warming herbal tea (due to ginger) and tastes light on the front end (for this steeping time) and has heavy flavor on the back end. I drink this tea with a bit of stevia, which makes it a perfect nighttime treat. I’ll probably keep this steeping time. I usually go with a little less time (about 5 min.). Upping it was definitely the way to go.

Before I drank “real” tea, my hot beverages of choice were brewed from a few varieties of herbal unsweetened teabags from Yogi tea. Lemon Ginger was among my top three favorites.

After sipping a Rishi tea with a similar flavor profile (Ginger Lime Rooibos), I revisited Yogi Lemon Ginger.

This was a wonderfully flavorful tea, far more punchy than the Rishi. It’s bright, spicy, and naturally sweet, since this blend also includes licorice root (and evidently a larger amount and/or more potent source). The peppermint leaf and black pepper, both near the bottom of the ingredient list, are barely there — I doubt I would have been able to place them without having read the label.

There are plenty of teas that captivate me now, but I’ll hang on to these old teabags, especially for those times when I’m sniffling or away from home.

I was looking for a soothing herbal to help detox. I found this to be quite pleasant with a strong enough ginger taste which I was looking for. If you don’t like spice or ginger, this isn’t for you. But if that is what you are looking for, than this is better than most bagged ginger lemon teas. I also enjoy the sayings on the tag.
