Nightlife is a bud heavy, high grade production of yueguangbai [moonlight white] style tea, commissioned from large leaf varietal material usually destined for raw Puer tea.
The tea has a heavy, creamy mouth feel with an airy sweetness and aroma.
Anyone else feel like you had a phase of extreme precision when making straight/traditional teas and now you’ve just sort of moved along to a different phase of “fuck it, I do what I want”? ‘Cause that’s kind of where I feel I’m at right now…
Drank this one yesterday all throughout the evening Grandpa Style while reading a new graphic novel – I’m basically caught up with The Runaways right now (which is what I was reading) so now I just need random other things to fill the gaps in between new issues. Here’s the list I’ve had recommended to me so far:
- Snot Girl
- Kill Six Billion Demons (Web Comic)
- Squirrel Girl (Actually a few comics into this one already…)
I’m totally open to other suggestions, though! For frame of reference, other things I’ve read and really enjoyed are basically anything Spiderman/SpiderGwen, Deadpool (started with Spiderpool stuff and branched out), the Lumber Janes series, Seconds (by Bryan Lee O’Malley), the Jughead comics, and a lot of the more lighthearted stuff from Boom Box! like Dodge, and a few of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer seasons that came out after the TV series ended (I think I left off on season ten)…
Anyway, the tea – quite smooth, and it handled this style of brewing really well/never once got bitter or astringent even though I was using boiling water. Main flavour note was hot hay/straw, but there was also some underlying sugar cane-esque sweetness,a bit of a clotted cream kind of taste (especially at the beginning of sitting down with this), some non-distinct heady floral undertones, and then a finish that was a bit more pleasantly medicinal and like resin. Sort of a weird mash of notes; but VERY enjoyable and relaxing. I could sit there drinking this tea for hours – and in fact that is what I did…
I wonder if this is sold out…
I was so excited to try this tea when the 25g sample came in and I haven’t had time to brew it gong fu style yet, so I’ve only tried it western style so far. Regardless, it is one of the best white teas I have tried. Usually my biggest turn off to white teas is an overpowering floral taste but this one has a very nice balance of a smooth creamy taste within the floral taste. I will definitely be trying this gong fu style soon and following up. I would definitely reorder.
Flavors: Creamy, Floral, Hay, Honey, Vanilla
I’ve gotten to that point with most of my oolongs in the Gaiwan I bought from Spirit Tea. I don’t even count any more- I just watch the leaves open and judge from that and aroma. The second the tea has a high sweet note in the brew, I let it sit for about two seconds and then I pour.
As for a comic, I really haven’t read anything recently, but Vaughan’s Saga is one of the few I that I was hooked to.
I have no suggestions but hell yeah Deadpool.
An adorable comic that is in both graphic novel and webcomic form (completed!) and is a quick read (maybe 20-30 minutes to finish?) AND about tea and dragons (yes, an epic combo) is the Tea Dragon Society. I read it online but plan to buy a physical copy just because I liked it so much.
