From white2tea

Our 2022 Gingerbread Man is a shou Puer blend that’s easy on the wallet and packed full of sticky sweet molasses flavor and aroma. A great introductory shou Puer tea for anybody in a need of a hefty morning cup who has a penchant for sweet baked goods. Don’t brew the whole tray.

The time has come for this Man, Gingerbread Man. Tomorrow he would celebrate his third birthday (pressing date).

I used a whole mini in my gaiwan and steeped with various steeping time. Mostly around 30 seconds, with rather small increments. I wasn’t totally focused to the tea this time, but this tea is rather forgiving.

There is a thick mouthfeel; strong dark shu flavours, and while it is not gingerbread in any way, it is rich and a kind of sticky. I can’t point out any particular flavours, but it made me feel cozy and it was warming me up.

Enjoyable and easydrinking shou and off any funky and off flavours. Definitely it was worth 80 cents I paid for it. Would I get more of this? Maybe… it’s not so expensive and it’s drinkable.

Sometimes a warm coziness is just what we need in our day! I have been finding it in some shou too, knowing I can just toss some leaf into the basket and get a reliable bit of pleasure from it. No thought needed, no subtle flavors or aromas to agonize about, just a warm cup of cheer while I watch some light TV.

Super dark brew, looks fantastic. I don’t get much of the molasses flavor on the front but the mouthfeel of the tea is sticky. While it doesn’t specifically remind me of gingerbread (or any other Christmas spice), there is an undertone of baked bread. For the price, this is an great shou, just don’t expect a super gingerbread-y flavor.

Edit: Been drinking it all winter and it’s growing on me a lot. Still don’t really get the gingerbread flavor, but the baked bread and wheat flavors really complement the cold weather nicely. Later steeps (I’m talking like past five) start to bring out some petrichor in a really complementary way.

Smooth and rather nondescript. I don’t get molasses, though it’s a pleasant cuppa. This is a shou I would be tempted to add herbs or flowers to, as I think it would make a nice canvas for other flavors to play on.

Gongfu.

Most should pu’erh just isn’t really for me. I try, but I can’t get past the fishy, compost smell.

I was hoping to find more of a deep, molasses flavor with this, but it was just the typical wet earth and slight fishiness. Sorry little gingerbread man.

Aww, that’s shame. I have one Mini received yesterday and I was/am looking forward to it. Maybe I will let it age a bit.

Grandpa Style!

It was so, so cold last week and I’m sure that heavily influenced just how much I found myself craving shou – especially in the mid afternoons. I brewed this one long and strong for a super thick, rich cup with all that cozy earthy molasses goodness! It was a very, very good desk mate for the afternoon.
