I don’t know why I bought this, really. I couldn’t decide if the name was cute or silly but it smelled pretty good and I could use a go-to breakfast blend.
So, it’s not morning anymore but this is my first cup of the day. I had rather a rough morning and would enthusiastically prefer not to go to work for the evening, but I have to get ready and I’m hoping this will help.
This is pretty good. Bold, astringent, rich. I’m not drinking it with milk right now but probably will next time. That is more because I always feel like I need milk to make it officially a breakfast tea. This is good without. I can’t remember what I was told was in this blend and it’s a bit strange that the description is so vague, but I think I recall a mention of Ceylon and Nilgiri among others. Who knows.
Anyway, a solid breakfast blend. I will probably try out a different one when I’m done with this but I think I’ll quite enjoy what I have.

Now, every time I’ve gone into Tealish, I’ve had a bad experience. I am almost always ignored, and the employees seem less than enthused about tea, which is a shame. Tealish could be such a nice, happy place. But when a customer is ignored, even when they’re the only other person in the store, something needs to be done about their customer service. Now, you all know how I am about customer service (Harney and Sons, anyone), so I tweeted about it and got a reply from Tealish asking me to e-mail them the full story. I did and got an e-mail back within twenty-four hours. Not a form letter, an actual response. I was very, very impressed. When I left Monday evening, I didn’t ever want to set foot inside Tealish again, but their terrific response and actually listening to what I had to say has convinced me to give them another go. So if you’re in the Toronto area, given Tealish a chance. They may not be 100% yet, but they’re trying and that says a lot. Better than some of the local juggernauts that sell inferior products.
As for the tea, I’m really enjoying it! It’s strong without being bitter, the mix is different from that of Irish breakfast or English breakfast, and it is certainly waking me up. This might become a standard in my home. I thought I didn’t like breakfast teas, because I haven’t liked any English breakfast I’ve tried, but no. I love Irish breakfast and I’m loving this tea, so maybe I’m just not English enough for the other ;)
I’ve found Tealish to have a bit of a different vibe (laid back, I guess), but I actually find it a relief after visiting, say, DT or Teaopia where I can find the perkiness pretty grating. I’m also consistently impressed with their teas. It definitely shouldn’t go too far in the other direction that you’re ignored, though! I’m happy they made it right with you.
I think soon we will be able to organize a round the world trip just with breakfast mixes named after countries. English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Yorkshire (not a country, ok) Breakfast. I think Mariage Freres makes French Breakfast and American Breafkast AND Shanghai Breakfast AND Russian Breakfast. An italian company makes Italian Breakfast. TWG makes Singapore Breakfast. I would not have been able to resist Canadian Breakfast either! And wonder what else is left.
That’s too funny! Several results on here come up for Canadian Breakfast, and a few for American Breakfast (including one by Mariage Freres). Not that anyone needs another excuse to collect tea, but it would be interesting to see how many countries one could find!
A very tempting idea – I swear I am tempted by the French Breakfast ( I must start to admit to myself that my tastes in tea are somewhat frenchified!)) though never saw it for sale. I did see Italian Breakfast for sale the other day and was tempted.
