Another tea which manages to marry first flush, freshness, green vivacity, with sweet floral complexity. Add to this a suggestion of spice and vanilla bean and you end up with a special all-day cup with stand-out complexity and character.
Located in Mirik valley Gopaldhara is one of the highest test estates in Darjeeling and is known for exquisite quality clonal teas . In the year 1881, the original planters started planting teas on lush green paddy fields that belonged to a person named ‘Gopal’. As the paddy fields were interspersed with numerous natural streams, called ‘dharas’ in the local language, a combination of the two gave the name ‘Gopaldhara’ to the planted tea fields.

Chado Tea RoomThis tea is a blend of a bai mu dan and a FF Darjeeling: one-third the former and two-thirds the latter. The white tea components tend to tone down the Darjeeling aspects (which in turn rather overwhelm the former). Nice enough, I guess, but too expensive for something so mixed-up.
First infusion – 3 g. per 8 oz water, 75 deg., 2:00 min.
Second infusion – 3 g. per 8 oz. water, 75 deg., 4:00 min.
Third infusion – 3 g. per 8 oz. water, 75 deg., 10:00+ min.
I like white teas, but this one failed to impress, despite the “wonder” in its name. Could be that the temperature was wrong, could be that it needed more steep time, but it tasted like a watered down green tea, just a little sweeter. Teabox recommends 10 min steeping at 85-90 degrees, so I will give it another try with those parameters, instead of my standard white tea ones.
Ceasefire is thankfully continuing. Here’s to hoping that it becomes permanent.

First try i used a sado red clay teapot, result was bloody awesome! this time around i used a glaspot and the result is somewhat paler. Somewhat spicy with more than a hint of astringancy mixed with an almost green floral note with hints of burnt butter.
Still this tea sure packs a punch for a white tea, although the taste is more like a first flush darjeeling oolong. Got enough for another try!
