From teabento

Grown at high altitude, in one of the remotest and untouched places in Yunnan, hand-picked from the first flush and hand processed with traditional methods that are used for producing Taiwanese black tea, Red Panda is another exceptional tea which we are proud of. The dry leaves offer a strong fruity sweet aroma. The infusion is rich, mellow and subtle malty in taste, with notes of dried fruits and honey, as well as a sweet long-lasting finish. A really rare, amazing tea, which we warmly recommend!

#adventageddon Day Twenty Two – 6/6

Gongfu!

This was really nice and I’d love to write more about it but I’m so tired right now and just really struggling at the moment to stay on top of writing advent tasting notes so I’m gonna keep it simple instead with some jot notes…

- Six infusions before flavour decline
- Full bodied and thick mouthfeel
- Notes of malt, plum, and warming spices like cinnamon
- With a touch of a woody note
- Delicious!

Red Panda is a beautiful tea. The leaves are large and twisted, the soup is really red

As beautiful as this is, it’s not to my taste. Definitely more like a Taiwan black than a Chinese black. Light, sweet, fruity. A little honey – a lot plum. Don’t oversteep it – brings out more tannin and some bitter.
If you are a fan of this style of tea, you’ll like this. I want something bolder.

(I need more glass teapots…..)

Evol Ving Ness

I need more glass teapots too. I had one that I really really liked and I broke it last year.

I also need a gong fu pitcher. Finally have all the bits but that. One of these days. Maybe I’ll be able to hunt something up at the tea festival.
Dexter

Boo to broken teaware. I always seem to break the ones I really like. I hope you find one to replace it. You can use anything for a gongfu pitcher. Measuring cup works well. :)

Evol Ving Ness

Yeah, me too. Probably because we use the ones we like a lot. Nevermind, it forces us out of our comfort zone. Measuring cups! Yes, of course. Thanks for the suggestion. I may just wait to have the whole thing going on though. I want the visual aspect in addition to everything else. Yes, I want it all.

Evol Ving Ness

Thankfully, I am patient enough to enjoy the wait till I find what I like/want.

Dexter

This is why I was looking at YS the other day. They have 15% off reaware right now and their glass teaware is normally inexpensive, I didn’t buy anything because shipping was about the same as the ware pieces I had picked out. Would have to order tea to make it worthwhile. I don’t need tea….

This is a unique black as it is a Yunnan black, processed as a Taiwanese black. Happy Panda has notes of blackberry, malt, and clover honey. The texture is super oily, which I love. This tea does get quite bitter and dry at the 4th infusion.

As always, thank you to Teabento for proving me with a killer awesome sample! I chose all black teas because that’s how I roll, and come on, tea in the shape of a red panda? Sold.

The description of this tea is bang on. It drank half my cup before revisiting the notes since I haven’t read them since initially deciding on my sample requests, and I automatically thought of honeyed fruits with a touch of malt. This has a thicker mouthfeel in comparison to the others I’ve tried so far, which is my jam too. It’s good!

mmm. honey notes? check. smooth brew? check. this is actually closer to sun moon lake teas that i’ve had in the past. I am a fan!

Autistic Goblin

It was so hard to choose teas on their site. I went with the other panda :D Although I think Red Pandas are cooler. There’s always next time though.

Crowkettle

Why are these tea displays so adorable? I’m helplessly enticed and I don’t even have the money for enticement. :O
