From Tamborine Tea

A classic black tea, produced by blending smoked Lapsang Souchong with other black teas to get the traditional full-bodied and lightly smoked tea known as Russian Caravan. Historically the tea got its name from the time when special caravans transported tea from China to Russia over the desert by camels. During the long journeys the tea absorbed smoke from campfires, resulting in a smooth, medium strong tea with a lightly smoked character. Use 1 tsp. per cup, brew in hot water (98-99 °C) for 2-3 mins.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this tea! My absolute favourite black. Smoky, but not overpowering and with a richness underneath that makes it a pleasure to drink any time of day (although earlier is better) & especially in winter.
I have been trying to identify what the underlying flavours are, because they’re very subtle – there’s red wine, berries, mushrooms and something umami. Altogether heavenly!
In case of a nuclear holocaust, this & my peppermint tea would be the first into the fallout shelter…
