From Taiwan Tea Crafts

Lot 988 of our Select grade continues with the successful collaboration started a free years ago between a grower in the beautiful terroir of Zhushan and our family. Yes, this is not an Oriental Beauty that originates from it’s original terroir, further north, in the counties of Hsinchu and Miaoli, but from an area, between Shanlinxi and Alishan, most celebrated for its fragrant high-mountain oolongs . We’ve challenged a friend to produce a Beauty tea from his summer picking of Qing Xin leaves. This grower is coincidentally often blessed with a generous presence of “Mixian” taste and aroma from his leaf pickings: the sought after, and often elusive, honey component that is so characteristic of good OBs. His strict obedience to non-abusive responsible practices regarding pesticide usage certainly offers a more welcoming terrain for the little leaf hoppers to offer their contribution in bringing out the honey taste! As a bonus, his teas are well below the strict EU norm for residual pesticides. The produced tea was then finished in our own premises where our resident master has slow baked this lot to perfection. A good bouquet of fruits with a hint of rose entices the taste buds that will confirm the refreshing quench of marmalade-like citrus notes with a thick wild honey brioche texture and balanced spiciness. There is nothing low-end to this Oriental Beauty tea apart from the price! It is generous and most satisfying.

Another older sample I had stashed away from TTC. Mine is actually lot 657, but I didn’t want to create a new listing for this one note…

This tea is simple but very tasty. Heavy on those lovely bugbitten honey notes combined with sweet dried fruits and a hint of cinnamon. Some nice fluffy enriched bread notes as well, so it’s a bit like lightly toasted brioche with a touch of fig jam, honey, and cinnamon. There’s a bit of a toasty autumn leaf note at the bottom as well.

I always love bai hao, and this one is no exception. Will definitely need to get some in my cupboard one of these days!

I very often get a toasted bread with cinnamon honey sort of flavor profile from Taiwanese black teas and oxidized oolongs. Some of my favorite teas for sure!

I think the reason I’m gravitating towards this varietal so much is that it very much reminds me of our most recent trip to New York. We visited Té Company multiple times during our trip, and this smells just like one of the teas I sipped in the shop. Really sweet and comforting, and shockingly affordable. I’ll definitely be grabbing more of this.

I am enjoying another tea from my order at Taiwan Tea Crafts . Again this is an oriental beauty and very different vs the 2 ones I already tasted .

It is on the fruit and honey side of Oriental Beauty but is not as sweet and honey as oriental beauty premium grade Oolong lot 342. It is a tea somewhere halfway between the latter and Oriental Beauty Oolong Superior Grade lot 341 .

This is a very well balanced and absolutely delicious tea. The premium grade Oolong lot 342 remains my favorite though.
