From Steepster

Soba cha (roasted buckwheat berries) is a caffeine free tisane drank in noodle shops in Japan. With an intoxicating aroma and slightly sweet, nutty brew, this is sure to become a favorite. GLUTEN FREE!

This is one of the best teas I’ve had in a while. I brewed this and re-steeped twice. Each time it was flavorful, roasted but not heavy. It was really warming and tasty.

Roasted toasty rice flavor. Nutty and interesting. This tea was polarizing with my guests though and people either loved it or hated it.

Lovely, nutty goodness. My fav from that month’s shipment. Easy to oversteep though.

Backlog:

This reminds me a lot of drinking the toasted rice part of Genmaicha. It’s got that yummy roasty-toasty flavor of the genmaicha toasted rice, but it has a tasty malty note to it too. Like Barley … the flavor reminds me of a freshly baked loaf of multi-grain bread.

Sweet with notes of honey and nut and caramel. It tastes very breakfast-y, like a piece of toasted multi-grain bread with a pat of melted butter and a drizzle of honey.

I love the nutty flavor, in addition to the smoky taste accompanied with the deep roast. It was a great tasting tea and great for sipping in the afternoon. One of My favorites from last month.

Good afternoon Steepster!
Ugh, I have been out on disability for almost 3 months and I got back to the office today, working part time until June. I don’t know why but sitting at my desk is causing me some incredible pain. I am definitely more comfortable at my desk at home but they won’t let me work at home. I think because here I have a drafting table and a drafting chair and it seems more comfortable than being all scrunched up at a short desk.

Anyhoo, I got two Steepster select boxes while I was gone and decided to open them both up today. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a buckwheat tisane before. This smells really good, very nutty and bready. The flavor is nice and sweet. I am getting a grainy sweetness and even though this is a dark roast, it doesn’t taste like something that’s been dark roasted. I like this fairly well but maybe not enough to actually run out and buy any. It’s nice that I survived my day but I wonder if anyone around me noticed how I was so whiny and grumpy. Harumph!

It is always so hard to go to work after medical problems. Especially if you are in pain. :( Hope you feel better soon. We don’t want a grumpy TeaBrat, now do we?

TeaBrat

Thanks, I’m afraid I have a long recovery ahead but at least I have plenty of tea. ;-)

DeliriumsFrogs

I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. :(

Skulleigh

Sorry about the painful desk arrangement :( Can you convince them to get you an ergonomic assessment for your workarea?

I signed up for Select last month, and the box with the Soba Cha was my first. I found it really interesting – more like a light broth than a beverage, really. I kind of want more!

Hesper June

Oh no! I hope something can be figured out soon, so you can work pain free!

TeaBrat

Thanks all! No the people I work with have been jerks about the whole thing but for now I’m taking a lot of breaks and using ice when I need it.

@ligongsf

@TeaBrat, hope you feel better and take it easy at work…I am new to this community and in SF too.

@ligongsf

btw, I see you are also a buddhist, that’s great. I went to the two zen centers each once

Hmm. The reviews led me to believe this was great. I don’t hate it, it’s ok. I’m not having any trouble getting through the cup, and I definitely taste the Golden Crisp flavor. I guess all in all I can take it or leave it.

CelebriTEA

OMG! I love this so much!!!

A lovely, warming, soothing evening tea. This tisane has a robust nutty flavor that reminds me strongly of genmai cha. I was not expecting a deep flavor profile because the tea itself was so light, but I very much enjoyed the full-bodied cup. I felt nourished and calmed after enjoying this tea, and it is the first tea from Select that I am seeking out to purchase. 9/10, will drink again.

If you’re looking to find it for a good price, check your healthfood store for roasted buckwheat/kasha. Mine sells it for $3.65 a pound! You may find a deal as well :)

Thanks Steepster Select, I might not have tried this otherwise.

The scent reminds me of brown rice, or toast. It has an interesting flavour, like a mild coffee and houjicha hybrid. Which is actually pretty good.

Ahhhh… Good. I love this right now. The roasted barley taste is really yummy. I saw some reviews on how it tastes like honey smackers and thought yeah! That’s it! I’m happy this was the first tea I tried from the free steepster select box I got. Don’t know if I can afford to keep the subscription going but if I like the other tea samples as much, I think I’m in trouble :)
