From Simpson & Vail

Delight in this refreshing cup of caffeine-free rooibos “tea”! A new favorite, this pinkish cup has the stimulating taste of tart lemons followed by a satisfying full fruit flavor. Try over ice to keep pleasantly cool this Summer.

Ingredients: Organic green rooibos, organic lemon peel, organic hibiscus, natural Sour Strawberry Lemonade flavor and strawberry pieces.

“Sour” is certainly a choice for this name. I don’t know that I get anything that strikes me as sour, and certainly nothing potent enough to be American lemonade. It is a solid candy strawberry though, and given I’m picky about both strawberry and rooibos I was surprised to like it so much! The woodiness of the rooibos was covered well with the strawberry flavor. I wonder if it would translate well iced.

S&V Advent Day 4! The flavor is definitely subtle here, but I’ve also been struggling with the tiny amount of leaf in these packets. I taste a hint of fruitiness, but no tartness. Maybe this would do better overleafed. It’s not bad, but it really doesn’t stand out. I suppose something in the aftertaste gives me a slight lemonade feel. I’d consider purchasing this one to give it more of a fair try. The cold resteep ended up more fruity and flavorful!

Yeah the green rooibos ones… Even at 8 ounces of water, they seem weak.

Advent Day 4

I know this would probably be better iced, but I just don’t feel like making an iced tea. It would also be a weirdly tiny cup based on the amount of tea provided in the advent…so hot it is.
I’m glad S&V has been using green rooibos rather than rooibos in the advent blends. Not a fan of rooibos, but I can handle the green variety.
Smells odd when it’s brewing, but I actually really like the flavor. Not sour, but has a pleasant authentic strawberry flavor.

I thought the strawberry was nice too! Tangy and reminded me of freeze-dried strawberries. :)

Inkling

Wish more companies would use green rooibos or honeybush! Much prefer those as an herbal tea base.

Green honeybush is so nice too! And I never see that one. :|

Simpson & Vail Advent Calendar: Day 4

I got two herbals in today’s advents, and they could not be more different! This one is light and bright and fruity. The hibiscus is blessedly mild, adding just a little juicy fruitiness. It’s not sour at all, despite the name. I’m not picking up on much lemon(ade), but there’s some very pleasant (and authentic) strawberry notes in there.

It’s a pretty mild blend, given everything that’s going on with it… I bet it’d be delicious cold-brewed. A real contender for summer drinkin’.

Flavors: Bright, Fruity, Strawberry

I didn’t find it sour either ha ha, a weird choice for the name.

Advent Calendar 2024 – Day 4

Ooh, I was so excited to see this one! This was part of a round of releases Simpson & Vail did (in the summer I think?) that I was so interested in trying, but wasn’t willing to order full sizes of. There’s also a pineapple green tea and a couple of fruit infusions that are still on my wishlist.

Hmm… I guess I’ve forgotten how much you need to overleaf their green rooibos blends, because even preparing this with 10 ounces of water (for ~2 teaspoons of leaf), it’s still a bit weak. It does have a nice, mellow strawberry & lemon flavor to it though, and the strawberry has a nice tanginess that reminds me of the freeze-dried variety. I wouldn’t go so far to call it “sour” – there is hibiscus but not a ton of it.

Not sure I can rate it since I seem to have steeped it poorly, but will definitely grab a bag whenever I order from them next. :)
