July Sipdown Prompt – a fruity tea

We have really blown through this one. It is really good iced and I have made the final pitcher of it today to get us through this long, incredibly hot weekend.
We enjoyed it a lot as a hot breakfast tea but the fruit flavors begged to be tasted as iced tea, too. It made an excellent iced tea. I didn’t cold steep it, I made it hot and chilled it. The tea base is the star and the fruit flavors are a great bonus, but they don’t take over and eclipse the tea itself.

I’m not a big peach fan, but I do like apricot, and I’m glad that apricot has a distinct flavor here. The vanilla didn’t show up in either steep, and there was a medicinal aftertaste in the first steep. I’m glad I went for steep #2 because it was much better, no lingering aftertaste and a much smoother finish. With the peach in there it’s never going to be a favorite but I’m glad Lexie sent some for me to try!

Anyway, when I went to Tea Chai Te some time ago the woman working there was really kind. I decided to wait to order until my friend arrived and he had driven to the wrong location so I was there a good long while. She brought me out a small cup of this tea prepared with milk and honey since it was her favorite at no cost while I waited. While I don’t drink regular milk I did drink the tea because how could you not? It was really tasty and I ended up buying some to take home. I’m usually disappointed by peach black teas and you could even taste the apricot in this one.
Now, I’m having another cup of it this time made with only a tiny bit of honey and some almond milk. It’s still really tasty and vanilla-heavy with the fruitiness from the peach and apricot. I think it could even pass as a peaches and cream blend when you add a milk product to it.

This tea combines my love of so many things – smooth black teas, vanilla, and stone fruits. Iced, this blend is so refreshing and juicy, and the vanilla just adds a bit of interest at the tail end of each sip. Hot, the vanilla is more amplified and the blend is giving me homemade peach jam/butter or peach cobbler vibes. The black tea base reminds me of those in so many of the blends I love from 52Teas – smooth, silky, strong but not astringent, complements the other flavors in the blend (as opposed to competing with them). It’s a delicious blend, and I’m so pleased that it tastes as good as it sounded when I bit the bullet and placed my order of samples. I received a very generous 1-ounce sample, but I’m burning through it quite quickly. I will be reordering it to add to my collection once I finish trying all my (11!) samples.
