Minty, lemony, abit of cinnamon and clove? or maybe a bit medicinal? Light and refreshing hot, awful cold, no flavor.

I wanted to try this in the original, with no “chai” or other extras to distract. Very herby in aroma and taste. Slightly lemony, with a hint of a basil/herb scent. I drink it plain and quite like it.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – October Tea #1-A vegetal tea

Thing is, I will never know if this is a sipdown as wrapped teabags tend to escape their boxes to conserve space.  As one of my oldest teas, this will probably be a sipdown soon, if it isn’t already.  It’s hard to tell!  This did always taste very vegetal to me – green beans!  I would love to see a purple basil tea. Since this isn’t even in my Steepster cupboard anymore, I’m counting it as a sipdown.

Cinnamon, spice, peppery, nice. Like this as part of a mix with chamomile and hibiscus, or by itself.

A vibrant range of tastes imparted by 3 different types of tulsi.

It’s tulsi. What more can I say? Less star anise-clove forward than I recall Trader Joe’s tulsi being, which I think was also a blend of 3 types. This feels lower toned, more grounding, but it doesn’t taste like earth.

Good for a morning where I had to talk myself down from calling out before forcing myself out of bed 20 minutes before work, heh. I said to myself, “derk, you can go home for the day at lunch”, but then now begins the post-Thanksgiving year-end scramble to complete projects. Work was actually a good way to separate mind from body today and I finished out the full day with relative ease. Maybe the tulsi helped.

I really do think it helps take the edge off when I feel really anxious or edgy! Just a bit, but every bit helps!

Mastress Alita

I always prefer the three types of tulsi mixed than any of the three types solo.

Tulsi is the one and only medicinal tisane that has an observable effect on my knotted nerves.

Herbal and Decaf TTB.

I’ve never had a Tulsi tea before, and after tasting this I really don’t think it’s for me. I found the smell off-putting, but I tried a couple of sips before dumping the rest. This is not an herb I particularly like. Nice to get a chance to try it without investing a lot of money into it, though. That’s what I really like about these boxes.

what does the box say about this herb?

rosebudmelissa

I think the box was mostly promoting it’s health benefits.

Kirkoneill1988

do you still have the box? does it say anything about anxiety and depression?

rosebudmelissa

Sorry, I didn’t keep the box. I’ve found that a google search is helpful for finding out what herbs help with various health conditions, and WebMD is good for finding out any potential side effects once you have the names of particular herbs.

Kirkoneill1988

thankyou :D

You’re welcome! I hope you find something that helps.

I love tulsi for its nerve-balancing qualities and pleasantly neutral herbal flavor. Slightly minty, I like to doctor this up with the juice of half a lemon, a bit of ginger and a big blob of honey when I’m not feeling well.

I’ve had Tulsi comprised of only one variety, but I prefer the blend of Rama, Vana, and Krishna Tulsi used in these bags. The brewed tea has a spicy scent, and tastes of lemon and herbs. It’s very refreshing when served hot, but I don’t care for it cold.

I love this Tulsi. My only experience with it is in its bagged form.

I find this tisane is rather robust, and can be steeped 8 minutes or longer from 200F+ temperatures. I have not personally experienced a loss in flavor this way, but your YMMV.

Comforting, helps me with sleep issues, balances me out when I’m a little too stressed or a little too drowsy. I think everyone should try it and experience its unique properties.

The flavor has not come across to me as licorice-like or minty (as both of those are not flavors I really like or resonate with). Instead, it’s herbal and slightly sweet, to me, with a lovely warmth to it.

I’d like to get the loose leaf in a tin when I run out next, but I’m also curious about The Tao of Tea’s varieties.
