From New Mexico Tea Company

An elegant twist on the British tea classic, Chocolate Earl Grey artfully combines rich, black tea with Italian bergamot (the highly aromatic citrus fruit) and a silky, sweet touch of chocolate. Invoke a few moments of reverie with this lusciously smooth, antioxidant-rich, dessert-like cup.

Extra Info:
Named after the 1830’s British Prime Minister, Earl Grey is the western world’s most popular tea. Earl Grey has traditionally meant any type or blend of tea which is scented with oil of bergamot, a fruit resembling an orange found in the Mediterranean region. Corfu, Greece was the center of the bergamot trade during the same decades it was headquarters for the British Mediterranean fleet, commanded by Lord Grey in London.

Perhaps more than any other tea, Earl Grey appears to have been the beverage of choice for one fictitious character after the next. From James Bond, to Star Trek’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard, to Sir Leigh Teabing of the DaVinci code, Earl Grey holds a special place in the world of storytelling.

Brewing Instructions:
Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1 tsp of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 4 minutes.

Other Brewing Options:
Make a “London Fog” without a milk steamer:
1) Use 1.5 teaspoons of Earl Grey and steep for 5 minutes.
2) While the tea is steeping take heavy cream, add in some vanilla extract, sugar, and a touch of boiling water. Shake the cream vigorously (to simulate the steaming process)
3). When the tea is ready, pour the cream mixture in. You even get a nice layer of froth on top!

Ingredients:
Organic: black tea, roasted carob, chocolate, Natural bergamot flavor, rose petals, cornflower petals

This was a sample from NM Tea co!  Thanks!  It went along with a small order.  I had been meaning to try this for a WHILE and have since forgotten which tea I specifically wanted to compare this to.  It might have been Lupicia’s Earl Grey Chocolat, but the ingredients are not the same, so I’m not sure if it was that one.  I also know I have tried NM’s Cream Earl in the past and I was not a fan. However, that WAS a sample from a swap, so I didn’t get to try it at its freshest.  So who knows how I would really feel about it.   THIS tea is pretty good!  It really does somehow taste like Lupicia’s Chocolate Earl… I could swear the bergamot tastes like the bergamot that Lupicia uses.  This one has big chocolate chips and rose petals that Lupicia’s does not have. But searching for a current ingredient list on Lupicia, I’m not seeing it.  I don’t really notice the rose here.  The chocolate is a bit.. only a HINT.. bordering on that alcohol flavor that chocolate tea sometimes has.  The black tea might be a LITTLE thinner than I would wish, which is why I like that Lupicia’s uses some CTC. But otherwise the flavors melding here are great and what I wanted and expected… I would say it is an acceptable replacement for Lupicia’s when I run out of it. I forgot to check if the chocolate chips actually melted before tossing the leaves…
