A totally wild fruit-candy brew made from medium leaves picked in the hallowed terroir of Wuyi mountain.
This tea was a real surprise. It stands out from all other Black teas sampled this year for its ‘pop’ character – bright and light with fruits, flowers and candy similar to a sweet iced tea. Sip Down & backlog
For the past few weeks, I went on a sun tea kick when the weather was cooperating. I only had 25-ish grams of this leftover and felt that ½ gallon jar was plenty to brew the remaining leaf in. I allowed the tea to sit from 06:00-20:00ish on Thursday, so that I could sip the tea throughout the work shift on Friday. I know that this was a perfect tea gongfu’d but wasn’t sure how it’d turn out sun brewed.
I noted, “Non-alcoholic whiskey, malt, & smooth. No texture to the tea. Could have more leaf next time, but this works well enough.”I am writing this tasting note backwards because I had to copy my nptes from the Mei Leaf website. This one is a bit different from some of their tasting notes because of the different season. This is a 2022 pick. In my sip just now I taste oatmeal along with dry wood. Quite a good tea. But doesn’t knock my socks off.
Varying tones of milk chocolate and brownish-olive green in the brewed leaf.
Finish Woody. Slight astringent texture.
empty cup Buttery. Creamy. Woody.
Flavor of Dark wood tones. Walnut and oak. Laquer.
A slight sweetness at first. Replaced by intense woody notes. A bit of cream. Raisins. Whole wheat bread.
Liquor: Golden amber. The liquor aroma is also very nice. creamy and woody
Dry leaf Long dark brown leaves. Leaf and some stems. Dusty. Tightly twisted.
