From Maya Tea Company

Our Vana Spa Immunity Elixir begins with a light earthen and smokey flavor, then moves on to a hint of bitterness and grassy straw notes, and finally ends in a long spicy and sweet lingering finish. This incredible tisane is always best served hot. To thin out the flavor feel free to add more hot water, a slice of lemon, or a touch of sweetener. We recommend a drop of honey for a sweetener, but sugar or agave are also delicious.

This smallish packet is from one of my first orders from Maya tea, so its pretty old! I am traveling with a group to Newfoundland (and its my third trip here but I just learned its pronounced like Disneyland not NEWfundland) and a fellow traveler has a cough. What a good time to break this out and ponder a Maya order because of a sale. This tea is a bit to medicinal for my taste, there are plenty of other teas available that have echinacea that don’t taste like potpourri, so I wouldn’t want to purchase this one again.
Oh, and the icebergs are amazing!

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge Sunday, December 12th: Universal Health Coverage Day Tea #1

I haven’t had this from my Maya Tea order yet… and it’s one of the only “Health” teas I have.  So why not try it today?  From the scent alone, I can tell this is a “health” tea rather than a tasty tea.  Very fine and crumbled ingredients and smells very medicinal.  The ingredients:  Alfalfa Leaf, Astralagus, Licorice Root, Organic Echinacea, Tulsi Leaf.  The flavor is about as good as an immunity tea would taste like.  A bit of spicy and sweet, but mostly like licorice so I don’t love it…  I’m not sure how much it would boost immunity, but it can’t hurt. The second steep is sweeter, not too bad flavored, better than I expected.
Steep #1 //  1 teaspoon // 24 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3 min

I remember one of the first teas I ever tried in my tea journey was a health tea for menstrual cramps, and the base was alfalfa leaf. It was so foul I couldn’t even handle the smell! I remember thinking, “Cows deserve better than this” and ended up tossing it.
