Silver Needle Pu-Erh has been getting a lot of buzz lately, and for good reason: The delicate, fuzzy white tea buds make for an extremely delicious, refined pu’erh.
This 14.40 oz cake is extremely beautiful, made up of fat buds covered with a pearly down. It’s dry nose is extremely subtle, so it is advisable to place the dry buds in a gaiwan (or other brewing vessel) that has been warmed with, and emptied of, hot water. The warm gaiwan will awaken the sweet, spicy, fragrance of the leaf.
The tea infuses to a light gold (but darker than the liquor produced by “regular” silver needles), and retains its sweet character. The tea is light bodied , mildly astringent, with hints of corn, caramel, apricot and malt.
This cake is packed in a beautiful, fabric lined presentation box, suitable for gift-giving.
