Sipdown! (114 | 211)

Deb was kind enough to include a sample of this one at my request, since it only comes in 75g bags and I’m not willing to blind order that much.

It’s tasty, but mostly it’s just a watermelon oolong. I only taste a tiny hint of grassiness from the green tea, and no jasmine at all. The watermelon is very candylike, like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. Based on the taste and the distinctive flower petals in this blend, I think this is the same wholesale watermelon oolong that I’ve had from another company previously.

It’s enjoyable, and I’m sure it would be yummy cold brewed as well, but not something I would order. Still interested in trying the lime version though!

I should ask her to do this next time an interesting 75g exclusive comes out from DBD. I am slowly getting through this one but I just got the lime slush too. Its really good cold brewed though.

Ooh, interested to hear how the lime one is!

Cold Brew!

I was really, really intensely craving watermelon this weekend so I ended up making this as a cold brew. Waiting the couple hours needed for it to brew was torture but it was all worth it after that first sip. Such a flavourful, juicy and smooth watermelon taste. A cross between a more candy-like watermelon note and something a bit more mellow, refreshing and authentic.

I was thinking about it after slurping back the full 24 ounce cold brew, and I think the very subtle undertone of floral jasmine actually does A LOT to bolster some of those more natural melon notes and tamper what could otherwise come off as really Jolly Rancher-like. It’s actually kind of impressive since, though you taste florals, you don’t really specifically taste jasmine. Kind of interesting how it works as a counterbalance in that way…

Would never have imagined watermelon and jasmine together, but I see how it could work!

Really enjoyed this tea! It’s heavily candy-watermelon flavoured, with jasmine as more of an undertone, and the oolong base gives it some great depth (the green likely had an impact but I wasn’t tasting carefully enough to notice). A handful of delicious resteeps as well, and the watermelon stuck around. I’m excited to try it iced at some point.
