This was a disappointment. I’ve only tried it once, so I won’t completely write it off just yet. The flavor was so muted and weak. I was expecting a tea that was a bit more tart, especially with rhubarb AND hibiscus. However, the ratio of ingredients in the blend is heavily skewed toward pineapple and mango. That wouldn’t be so bad if it was a more mango-forward tea, but it isn’t. This reads very much like a pineapple-flavored cream soda on my taste buds, and that just doesn’t jive for me. I purchased a lot of this because it sounded like something I’d really enjoy, but I daren’t open a second bag. I’ll give it another go this weekend before deciding what to do with the rest of it.

Evol Ving Ness

Hmm, maybe it needs to be steeped with far more leaf?

apieceofquiche

I did add more than I normally would, but it still seemed quite bland. I’ll play around with what’s left in my opened bag.

Hope you find the magic solution.

Finished my sample of this one off today as well. Again, it’s fine but i prefer other rhubarb teas that DT has created in the past.

This tea is weird and I don’t know what to make out of it. I’m a hibiscus hater, so I’m surprised to be saying that they didn’t overdo it with the hib in this mix! It’s just enough to give the rhubarb flavor some tartness. The tea has a sweetness to it. It is fruity in the sip and creamy in the finish. I have no verdict here, but it was a fun sample to try.

In store sample.

Now this one I like. Very much like the Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait but with a gentle fizziness slightly reminiscent of cream soda.

I tried this blend in store twice today, from two different sources. One was from the Tea of the Day batch, iced, and the other from a pitcher settled in a bucket of ice. I don’t know what the difference in preparation was, but the TOTD batch was more concentrated and more intense with a lot of flavour. The other was weak and watered down tasting.

I look forward to trying this one again.

Crowkettle

Ok, between you and Roswell Strange I’ll bite on this one XD

Evol Ving Ness

I would consider picking up a small amount of this one to try at home.

Roswell Strange

Yes, this one is the best! (Though I’m totally biased)

Sil

ugh i forgot to pick some of this up

Fjellrev

I was wondering how the two would be different! I’ll have to try it too. :)

Evol Ving Ness

This one apparently does not have strawberry and the creaminess (of yogurt?) , but I didn’t notice all that much difference.

Roswell Strange

IMO, this one is a lot lighter of a profile overall with a lot less general tartness. It’s a mix of rhubarb, pineapple, mango, red currant and hibiscus (and natural flavour for the cream soda element). There’s not actually a ton of overlapping ingredients between the two different blends other than rhubarb and hibiscus – and this definitely has much less hibiscus. It’s the second ingredients in Strawberry Rhubarb, but the fifth in this one. Also, for what it’s worth, I generally don’t like Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait that much but I’m OBSESSED with this one.

Evol Ving Ness

Hmm. Thanks, Ms. Strange. All that is very helpful.

Cold Brew!

Another favourite from DT that I have a giant stash of! I made this brew yesterday morning and strained it in the evening and it’s just so refreshing – a little bit tart from the rhubarb and hibiscus but then so creamy with just a hint of vanilla. Really does remind me of what I picture a rhubarb cream soda tasting like.

Wish this had been more popular – I’d have loved to see it return.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Nattie

I love rhubarb, I would have loved this tea! I am eating homegrown rhubarb as we speak, too. Grown by a family friend, not myself, and with maple syrup and cream to offset the yikes tartness. Mmm.

Martin Bednář

Hm. Rhubarb. Reminds me Jardin Bleu (Dammann Freres). If you like that Nattie, I can suggest it. I just wish they won’t be that expensive :/ and doing smaller pouches than 100g.

ashmanra

I had Jardin Bleu several years ago and liked it a lot. I loved the strawberry flavor of it.

Nattie

Ooh I’ll look into it, thanks @Martin!

tea-sipper

Yeah, have a ton of rhubarb but up for any suggestions on how to eat it (other than making a strawberry/rhubarb pie anyway).

Nattie

@tea-sipper – bake or stew it with honey/sugar/maple etc. until it’s soft, add a dollop of cream, and enjoy!

Mastress Alita

I loved this tea and miss it.

Got a warm cup of this to go! I think since it was the TOTD it had been there for a while so it wasn’t hot, but warm – which is okay. I tried the sample in store and it was pretty good. So I bought some to take home as well. I definitely taste the rhubarb in this one. Also the hibiscus. And I’m getting that ‘cream soda’ feel from it as well. Overall I think they named this one pretty accurately, and it’s a pretty good tea. Can’t wait to try it iced!

Flavors: Fruity, Hibiscus, Rhubarb

Oh, I was debating between ordering 50g during DT’s flash sale or just adding a free sample to my online order. If this tea is as good as you say it is, I think I’m going to regret only choosing the free sample.

This tea reminds me of my childhood toothpaste that I used to eat because it tasted so delicious LOL At least in tea form, it is way safer to ingest. I find it also has a slight cream soda taste to it so I can kinda see why they named it Rhubarb Cream Soda. I can see myself finishing the rest of this tea but I am not interested in buying more afterwards.

Rhubarb Cream Soda is like a less sweet version of Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait with the tartness turned all the way up. The initial sip is a bit like berry-rhubarb pie with a dollop of cream, but the sour, tart, dry flavors quickly overtake the sweetness and cream, and it reminds me a bit of red wine. Rosehip, hibiscus, and red currant are all rather strong in this.

In the end, this one is just too sour and tart for me. I like the sweet parts, but the sour taste it leaves in my mouth is actually rather unpleasant. The dry quality of hibiscus is also always off putting to me.
